Maybe they want to trade him... I have no idea why. Perhaps they didn't like how he has performed in the SL.

Re: Hill
Maybe because he sucks? That would be a good reason in my book.
Ok... I am officially Mr. Downer. I'm so pissed at this team, Manu, the FO... I don't think any of them did enough, what they are paid to do. The FO didn't, our rookie class sucked his summer and they take the blame too, Manu set us back half a year.

Re: Hill
Corey Maggette pretty much killed our off-season, I've concluded.
Going to need to have solid health and a few question marks answered to get better. Aside from a possible trade of some decency.

Stupid Warriors. Over pay a guy you don't need instead of paying your franchise player. You got duped by the freaking Clipps you idiots!!! Yeah, the same Clipps that managed to lose Elton this summer. Morons!!!

Perhaps. Although it's a whole lot easier to make yourself look smart when GM'ing a team that has no expectations of winning anytime soon. Besides, it's not like Presti was going to convince Maggette to turn down Golden State's money.

Re: Hill
I get frustrated with all this hate on the Spurs FO, I think it's really unfounded. First off, I honestly believe we were a healthy Manu away from kicking the Lakers to the curb in the western conference finals. From there, who knows how the finals would have went against the Cs. And I'm not the only one who thinks so:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/st ... ons/080617
Scroll down to close to the bottom of the page (or just read the article, because it's hilarious just like everything else Simmons writes) to the 'THE ELIJAH DUKES AWARD FOR "ANGRIEST NBA EMPLOYEE DURING THE FINALS"' and read it. This is coming from a huge Celtics fan. My point: the Spurs are and will continue to be one of the best teams in the NBA for the next few years. If you get the big 3 healthy, they're still right in the mix.
And here's some ancient history, circa about a year and a half ago, that many people seem to have forgotten. The San Antonio Spurs take Tiago Splitter with the 28th overall pick in the draft. This is a guy who on talent and upside alone would have been drafted in the top 10 in the 2006 draft but pulled out because of his buyout. I remember all the commentators, column writers and fans talking about how the Spurs did it again, striking gold so late in the draft and effectively pimp slapping the rest of the league. Now, he doesn't come over the year we all want him and the Spurs FO gets labelled as mentally challenged, what the hell? He is still a great asset to have and even if he never plays a game in a Spurs uniform was worth the risk at that point in the draft. Period.
And this offseason? We have no money. That's what happens when you have 3 superstars. We almost snagged Corey Maggette until Chris Mullin had one too many and offered him double what every other team in the league was. Blame Mullin for being an idiot, not Buford. Also, Roger Mason can play. Stick Mason in Finleys spot last year, and bring in Finley as a replacement Brent Barry and I think we're better than last year.
Come on guys, let's ease up on the people who have brought us a decade of great basketball.

I was actually rather ok with the offseason until the Spurs resigned Fin dog. Pop has a major mancrush on Fin and it's painfully obvious that this man has nothing left to contribute besides a decent shooting night once a month.
My optimism is gone because I now feel that Finley is going to be the starter again. I was eager for some young blood and enthusiasm on the wing, but the front office settled on the corpse of Michael Finley.

I've warmed up a bit..
no logic involved, but I think somebody will step up..whether it's Mahnimi or the new guy Watkins, I think somebody will step up..just how it has worked with our FO..
I have absolute faith in Roger Mason though..I think he's going to be a big part of this team, and his scoring will be big..I also have faith in Ime..
pretty much our only weakness is the complimentary position next to Tim IMO, and hopefully somebody will step up..

Re: Hill
I'm coming around, and will as we start seeing action and development with the season beginning.
I've always been intrigued by Mahinmi, though, and kinda expect him to step up, I like his demeanor...
Roger Mason I know will be productive on both ends, bring some younger legs and quickness on the wing, more shooting, but I just have to get familiar with him as a whole first. I really like what I read from Wizards fans, though.
Aside from improving the wings some more (which seems off for a little bit), getting more versatile/athletic there, I've always felt like we need to get a big man who is relatively good with his mobility, but also has some experience in the NBA. That's where I wanted us to improve off early last summer, and we have, in a way, but not directly. Mahinmi could well be that guy in terms of an agile big man, but he can't play too young, and has to earn Pop's trust enough. Same goes for Tolliver, though smaller, still a big man. Similar goes for Watkins, though, I don't know about his chances and how highly regarded he'll be.
Ultimately, all that is just a question mark.
I just think we may well have to make a deal for another veteran big who improves us, or a pretty athletic SF. Still basically thinking we will make a deal by the deadline, too.

Hoopsworld.com has Hill signed for 2 guaranteed years, followed by 2 team option years. starting salary at $1,006,200. maybe the Spurs did sign Hill but they didnt go public with it..?

All I can say is. Bout bloody time.
Having a young, unproven player on the roster should give us something to be excited about. His defense is already strong, as we saw in the summer leagues. All he needs to do on offensive is learn to blend in, ala Jacque Vaughn.
I'm actually starting to feel more optimistic when I look at all the potential scorers that have been added to the squad this offseason. Hill, Mason and Stoudamire all have the ability to create their own shots.

Re: Hill
Mahinmi will likely get a chance in the Rotation.
I think Hill, Salim, Green, Tolliver, And Watkins can show what they have for the Toros.
I'd start the season:
Parker|Farmer|Bowen|Duncan|Oberto|Mason|Finley-Ime|Thomas|Ian|Vaughn
Manu returns and they are a super power again.
