Herron, Morency both cut

I was a bit surprised to see Herron and Morency both go and apparently Kuhn stick. All 7 LB's made it and the Packers cut Malone, Muir, and Bolston....gives them 3 defensive tackles from my count, with Jenkins apparently going to have playing time there as well.

I don't quite understand why they cut Malone and Muir. I haven't followed either closely at all this preseason, but with our lack of depth on the D-line I'm surprised they both got the boot.

I guess that I am expecting some kind of a deal to be made, right now they are better situated to be a 3-4 defense. They also have a ton of DE's.

I was going to start a different thread, but I'll just add to this one.

Any cuts around the league that you guys think could help us out?

Not sure if anyone has ever heard of Junior Siavii, but he'd be a DT I'd look at if I was TT. Big, strong, vet run stuffer.

Chris Simms could be a back up QB option.

If anyone has a link to a site with a complete list of cuts I'd appreciate it.

I'm not surprised at all. NO way they could keep 4 HBs. And Lumpkin has huge upside. VM & Noah are both solid guys but Kregg may be our 2nd best RB - better than Jax. With coaches saying they do not want to burn Grant - I can see Kregg getting a fair amount of snaps to give Grant a breather (like after long gains) and Jax being 3rd dn back.

No real surprises. Injury saved Costin from being cut - POS>
Bush sux as CB but since he's a solid ST teams guy and may be OK as S - I'll get off his case. Tho he still is not safe.

Pack will certainly sign a LS and a DT b4 opener. What two guys will go to make room? One of Peprah or Bush - and we should be able to find a trading partner for one of our 4 reserve LBs. Ideally a LB for a DT or some team that will give at least a 6th .

None of the guys I was worried about were cut. I'm very pleased with the results.

I think Orien Harris would be a very nice pickup if he could be signed.

titan that's true personnel wise. But did they ever really show it or practice it much. Its a litte late to make a radical change like that?

More likely Pack will get another DT - by either FA or trade & loose a LB by trade or cut (or White to PUP).

Nick Hayden cut by the Panthers. That's too bad.

Congrats to Kregg Lumpkin, his making the squad ensures future fireworks on this forum. Not to name names, but there are certain posters here that will say how much they love him now, but as soon as he gets hurt will crucify TT for expecting anything from an injury-prone player in college (Lumpkin missed one whole season with a knee and only played 5 games last year due to knee and thumb injuries.)

The only real surprise to me is Muir. I thought he'd be the 4th DT.

Maybe mild surprise after sorta good last game. But I applaud TT for going for the gusto. Why accept mediocre? Take a shot at some new blood.

Not likely. Only similarity is injured in college. Big difference between giving a roster spot to a street FA who worked hard and SHOWED promise in CAMP is WAY different than spending a 1st rd pick for guy who eats all off season.

IF Kregg flops = it cost us 1 spot for Morency or Herron - big deal.

IF JH busts it cost us a 1st and arguably led to Cory's departure. Big double whammy.

Personallly I'd trade Chillar. Bishop & Hodge look good, are younger & less expensive and I think Chillar could get more. At any rate with whatever 2 good position players we should keep a top ST guy like White.

Yeah, the last game he played well but the other games he got blown off the ball a lot. They have to have some people in mind I'd think unless they really feel comfortable with Jenkins adding another body inside with Montgomery and Hunter playing outside. I actually wouldn't mind Montgomery playing more (he seems to play the run extremely well), but I'm not sure how well Jenkins can play inside in our defense.

The problem with that is that Chillar was a FA signing. It is generally frowned upon to sign a guy to a multi-year deal then trade him. I don't think the NFL has any rules against it -- though it is certainly possible -- but it doesn't happen. I thought Chillar played pretty well this preseason so I'd keep him based on his play alone anyway.

I could see Hodge being cut, though its a tough one. I still like Bishop better at backup MLB and that is really the only place Hodge can play. Hodge played well, but I think he's still a 3rd string MLB in the end on this team and he's an unknown as a ST player.

Your right about trading Chillar right after signing. And I agree about Bishop. Probably about Hodge too but I hope we can get a pick for him.
