The Sun wrote:Mick Foley to quit WWE for TNA Wrestling

By SIMON ROTHSTEIN and DAN MANLEY

Published: Today

WWE legend Mick Foley will jump to rival wrestling group TNA next month, a close friend has told The Sun.

The hardcore icon has become frustrated with his role as a commentator on Smackdown and wants to leave Vince McMahon’s company when his contract expires on September 1.

And he is so determined to make an IMPACT for his new employers, that he’s even willing to get back in the ring.

Foley’s pal told us: “Mick's body cannot handle a full time schedule, even in TNA.

“But he's hell bent on doing everything he can to further his legacy and put them on the map.

"So Mick's plan is to wrestle select dates, like Sting currently does.

“He feels he will legitimately make a big difference in the way TNA Wrestling is perceived by the public!”

Mick missed last night’s Smackdown TV taping for the second week running, with Tazz once again taking his announcer spot beside Jim Ross.

Last week, Foley told a newspaper: “At this point, there is a good chance, through mutual agreement that I will not be renewing my contract.

“Creatively, the announcing job wasn't working out too well.”

The hardcore legend almost went to TNA once before, in 2005, but decided to sign a new deal with the WWE at the last moment.

Ok, looks like it's a rumor and not close to an actual done deal. It could be Foley using TNA as a pawn to better position himself with the WWE. I do hope he ends up in TNA as a GM type, or even a manager/part-time wrestler. He and Abyss could tear the house down. He'd also be another big time name in TNA, and could help push them up to that elusive 1.5 rating.

I would kill for a TNA vs WWE invasion.

That wasn't WCW's fault; it was Vince's. He had all the talent in the world to work with and failed in epic style. He could have opened the wallet to give Sting a fat contract and a lighter schedule, and brought Rey over right away. Had he let Bret leave on better terms, he could have had him back. He could have used the nWo - the possibilities were endless. He just half assed it and it showed.

A TNA invasion would suck though - most of their big stars are former WWE stars to begin with. And Vince would just squash their top stars like he did with WCW to try and get his point across anyways.

Apparently it's now official, and he'll debut soon after his WWE contract expires on September 1st. Actually, from looking at TNA's bi-weekly taping schedule, he could make his debut as early as next week's iMPACT! show.

Yup it seems to be confirmed. In a somewhat related note, the contracts of a number of main event TNA wrestlers are set to expire.

Christian, Sting, Kevin Nash, 3-D. Of those guys, the only one who may really bolt to the WWE is Christian.

I think Nash and Sting will stay for sure, and it's a good thing. 3D is a question mark, but with WWE's tag division still crap, it'd just suck to see them over there again.

Christian is obviously one of my favorite wrestlers all time, I don't care if he goes back to WWE or not, what I want is to see him in the main event and have a good role in whatever company he's in. If he can be a main event guy and go for the Heavyweight gold in WWE, fine by me, but I really wanna see him with the TNA gold...

3D won't go back, especially with Orton trashing Bubba Ray recently. There's a good chance Christian takes off, I think there's atleast a 1/3 chance Christian is in a WWE ring in 2009, especially since TNA doesn't seem to think he's a main eventer.

Christian is going to be used wrong no matter where he goes and it sucks. The dude just knows how to flat out wrestle and entertain, yet his bosses can't seem to see that. If I had to choose, I'd rather see Christian in a title position over Edge. It would be really fun to see a Christian/Edge feud for the World Title, though.

I think Christian is a lot like Chris Jericho. I don't think Jericho can carry a feud like Rock, Austin, Hogan and other true greats. I think we saw this with his feud with Orton, which didn't go too well. But when you put Jericho in there with greats like HBK, he plays off them so well and really rises to the occassion.

You put a face Christian in there with Jeff Jarrett and who gives a damn? Christian and Rhyno, same question. But Christian along with Samoa Joe or Sting, you have something there.

I was just thinking how cool it would be to see Edge feud with Christian, after this long split.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA WOW.

Dude, have you even been watching? It's been Jericho carrying this feud with HBK, not the other way around, wow. Jericho is one of the most talented all around guys in the business. Period. The thing with Orton didn't go well because the writing and everything was pretty crappy.

Good point, InstantClassic.

I've never liked HBK; never will either. I think he's one of, if not the most overrated in ring performers of all-time. He's right up there with Ric Flair. Not to mention from all the stories I've read they're both scumbags.

That feud will be feud of the year unless Styles and Angle have another 5 star match. I have nothing bad to say about it, but I'm just saying that I don't thinnk Jericho can carry a feud. The Rock or Austin could make anyone look good, but if you put Jericho in a feud with X-Pac or Billy Gunn, he couldn't make you care about that feud in the way that Rock or Austin could.

Well of course not, because Austin and Rock had better gimmicks. Y2J doesn't have catch phrases that he says all the time, he has a different type of character than those two. Not to mention those two were involved with things such as Nation of Domination, and directly with Vince McMahon. Y2J hasn't aligned with Vince McMahon and had him at his side, though he's had the stuff with Stephanie, and that was probably about his peak of popularity.

Y2J also doesn't have that Don't Give A Damn attitude that Rock and Austin's characters had.

I don't think its just the gimmicks, with Austin it is a little more so. But those two, you could put them in there with anybody and people would care abotu that feud. I just don't think Jericho can do that.
