can the hornets/saints withstand another hurricane?

Post#1 » by jlogic20 » Sun Aug 31, 2008 2:10 am

I know the first thing to be concerned with is the people, and they have been given mandatory evacuations now so i suppose bodily harm is now all on the individual. I feel sorry for anyone who loses their s#it in a storm such as this as well.. with that said..

if the projections are correct and new orleans is greatly impacted by this storm is there hope of maintaining the sports teams in this city when assuridly there will be even more permanent defectors from the city...?

Sure... if people aren't as dumb as last time, when they had the resources to get out, but didn't. Now they have learned a lesson and should get the hell out of the city.

If they are not allowed to play there this season, where will they go for their home games? I think Las Vegas is the only plausible place.

it will be very difficult for them to withstand another hurricane...i mean they've been devestated by katrina. they worked hard to rebuild the city and now if the hurricane hits again, their morale would be all the way down. it would be difficult for them to support the hornets & saints if their morale are down once again. bad economics in new orleans after the hurricane would make it very difficult for the teams in NO to bring in revenues.

I first of all want to wish luck and hope to those in NO and hope the storm isnt as bad as possible, and definitely a different scenario than Katrina. With that said, if it is indeed bad and teams need to play elsewhere, how about the Hornets going to play in Seattle? Seattle was just screwed by the NBA and lost its team. A team coming to play here on a temporary basis would be supported by fans here.

If it happens again they will share the arena with Oklahoma City.

OKC makes the most sense location-wise but since OKC already got a NBA team so i think kansas city would be the next best location for the hornets due to distance from NO. kansas city also proved us that they can keep their football n baseball teams running

If it does happen (which would be a shame), I would guess Seattle.. I-5 matchups would be interesting again.

If the city gets destroyed again, I guarantee you that the Hornets will move away permanently. No owner will want to stay in New Orleans or any part of the South Coast. Hell, there wouldn't be any fans left because no one would care about basketball there after a second storm.

The people who returned to New Orleans after Katrina thought something like that would never happen again because Katrina was like a perfect storm. Now that a second "perfect storm" is coming, no one will want to go back to that city.

Who wants to have their lives destroyed a second time? A third time? Fourth?

I pray that the city won't go under water again.

Another monster on it's way? Yeah....probably time to say **** it and just abandon the whole city. There's a lot of uninhabited land in Wyoming.

Newer Orleans, Wyoming has a nice ring to it I think.

In fact, you could just drop the Or and call it Newer Leans and it would remain the same phonetically. At least it would the way I've always pronounced it.

I have 2 things to say:

1. I hate to say it but much of NO is under sea level as it is and with where it is positioned, right in the aim of a lot of hurricanes, I cant see how much longer the city will be able to function. The entire city is built on the sediment of the Mississippi and with the thing levvied up so much, the very land that NO was built on cannot regenerate. With sea levels rising and more storms coming I hate to say that it is only a matter of time before the city is deemed unfit for living. I know that if I was being forced to come back to ANOTHER wrecked city, I would be looking to move inland.

on a brighter note

2. Oooh boy, if the Hornets moved to Seattle, can you imagine the battles between Chris Paul and the Hornets (Son-ets or Hor-nics?? which is better??) and Oden, Roy, Aldrige and the Blazers?? In a few years, the WC championship would be going through the NW every year for the next decade or so. Talk about a rivalry reheating up.
