Scrappy dealt for Class-A reliever

Post#1 » by Schad » Sun Aug 31, 2008 9:19 pm

Scrappy is headed to 'Zona, incoming is 23 year old RHP Chad Beck, a huge guy who has been starting of late, strikes out a batter per inning and has very solid peripherals. Hardly a great prospect, but big-framed, high-K pitchers are nice to have.

hmmmm interesting how the jays managed to receive SOMETHING out of a player who will only play for 1 more month for the jays...

it's too bad things didn't work out.. i think many of us were on the eck bandwagon at the start of the season..

hopefully he'll have more success choking up on his bat in arizona. He seemed like a good pickup when we got him, but he never settled into the lineup (which on a larger scale was the fault of the entire lineup stinking it up).

At this point i'm ok with scooter or macdonald playing at short.

Agreed, I was definitely on the Eckstein wagon and even the Shannon Stewart wagon. He was never a great player, arguably a liability on defense, no power, and if he can't hit .300, then what's the point of having him. That said I love Eckstein and he's a class act, and hope he thrives in Arizona.

I loved Eck to bad things didn't work out for him here but im definitely more than happy to have Scooter play the shortstop position.

Already has a opposite field RBI in zona, a classic eckstien hit if things would have unfolde in TO properly he would in a tight race here instead, of course a few other chips would of had to fall into place(sigh) oh well next year...

I liked the move at the time because of the huge offensive upgrade, but Eckstein can't play SS anymore. His best/only position defensively at this point is 2B, and he wasn't going to play that in Toronto with Hill and now Inglett. Scutaro and Eckstein are similar plays, except Scutaro has more defensive versaility. Cito likes defense up the middle, which is why McDonald is playing everyday.

Solid move by the Jays. Cito clearly doesn't feel comfortable playing Eckstein on a consistent basis. Toronto saves some money and adds a prospect.
