TRUCE!!!!!!!!! and NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post#1 » by christian72589 » Tue Sep 2, 2008 3:43 am

Guys and Girls!!! In reflection of the recent events that have taken place on this forum... I have come to a suggestion that we....

1) No longer have ANY political posts
2) We stop any political discussion before it gets crazy

why???

These things are always interesting and I know that I am a large contributor to the problem but I just feel like there is no way that we can get thru these without personally attacking eachother and really causing an unwanted stir... people get really personal with what they say and then people get really personal back... this isn't really a good thing.

I know that news is slow for us during this time, but it is just a suggestion so I offfer a truce as a conservative to all liberals that we no longer engage like this on this forum

All in all I just want WHOEVER wins to do a great job and lead is all into prosperity... I say good luck to us all in these weird times and Lets all just get back to basketball here...

I don't want to be posting personal attacks on people's ideas, beliefs systems, or whatever anymore and it kind of sucks getting it all back... I think that we have all made valid points pro and con for each candidate and what's important is that people know what's up to make the best choice...

I agree completely. This forum is hopelessly short on censorship, and it's terrible how the moderators continue to permit discourse to take place on these boards. A little intuition tells you that a marketplace of ideas allows for free thinking, and that this can have devastating consequences on a forum as narrow in scope as Board index ‹ Sports Talk ‹ RealGM Basketball ‹ NBA Team Forums ‹ Orlando Magic. We really need to tread carefully, as a difference in opinion among a team's fanbase dramatically weakens the foundations on which a team is built. We do want the Magic to win a championship in 2009, don't we?!??!

I'm not really sure what to make of your post cig I do detect some sarcasm in the post... All I am saying is that it always becomes personal, thats all i was saying to avoid... like it is no longer about dem rep but then "youre a bad person no youre a bad person"

Yeah, I understand your point. I think that political discussion should be moderated and probably restricted to one thread, and that the ToS should still apply to political posts, but I don' think that the topic should be nuked/"forbidden" completely. Especially since this off-season is so slow. If you don't like OT posts, just stay away from OT threads.

Coincidentally, RealGM has a advertisement for " Whats at the top your to do list for the next president?" - Fix our housing crisis, secure our borders, etc. etc.

You can't say lets not talk about political stuff when it's a good topic to talk about, as long as it's an OT thread. Like Cig said if you don't like OT posts don't read OT threads.

can we talk about funny political stuff? cause i read something funny that if McCain got elected he would stop receiving his pension after he turned 80 which would be the end of his second term (if he made it to that point) where as Obama would keep receiving his pension long after his second term (until he turns 80) so if we elect Obama its more government spending. lol Not meant to stir up arguments i just thought it was a funny read

I understand... thanks for the green font info.... I think that what i originally wrote was a bit extreme as far as forbidding the talk, it is like i said, really interesting and important to everyone wether they know it or not, so yeah, I guess i will just do my part to keep it to the point when engaging in the discussion.

P.S. welcome to the 407 force...

as long as it's contained to one or two topics I have no problem with it. We discuss movies, hurricanes, and other events going on in the world on this forum from time to time. As long as it doesn't flood the boards I see no reason to outlaw it.

After all, this is the slow time of year.

I know this may sound kinda corny but I try to make it a point to thank the soldiers I meet or talk to who went over seas whether they fought or were over there to serve another purpose, so thanks man, we all greatly appreciate what you guys do for us.

Funny: John McCain has the middle name "Sidney," a stepson named Sidney, and is married to Cindy. He owns eight houses, or one for each member of Sarah Palin's immediate family.

Funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bza63nnqiKA is one missed heartbeat away from being president of the United States

Funny: "Senator Barack Hussein Obama" is an anagram for both "Oh, barbarian namesake cost us" and "I shone, babe, a USA rock star man!"

Funny: John McCain is 5'6.5, the same height Elijah Wood, Lucille Ball, and Napoleon (alleged). Yet he has surrounded himself with people, almost without exception, that are shorter than him in stature.

Funny: "Look, when I was a kid, I inhaled frequently. That was the point." - Barack Obama

Thank you. I believe you've thanked me in the past, I've just recently become active again on the boards after taking a couple months off in starting in Mid March or so, to pursue my law enforcement career, which I'm working on trying to get a job in the city. Either way. Much appreciated.

Maybe we should have a "Christian72589 venting thread" where he can have all his profanity laced tirades.
