Sixers to sign Donyell Marshall

Post#1 » by ankle420breaker » Tue Sep 2, 2008 2:15 am

He won't provide much outside of spot minutes here and there, but its a decent addition for the vet minimum. The sixers have now added Marshall, Kareem Rush, Ratliff, and Ivey to their bench joining Lou Williams, Reggie Evans, Willie Green, and Marreese Speights. Pretty solid off-season.

good veteran signing who will spread the floor

derrick mckey 2.0 in his philly days....good signing for the sixers I like how their roster is rounding out

I wouldn't expect much from him but given what the Sixers have to worth with it was a good signing. It won't hurt or help them that much.

I like the signing. Last season, they couldn't shoot the three if their lives depended on it.

I think its a solid addition for the 76ers. He has struggled the past couple years shooting but I think that will change with the solid talent around him with Miller, Iggy and Brand down low.

Nice move. I hope he plays well.

Theo Ratliff and I'm not mad. Donyell Marshall can't play anymore. The guy stands behind the three point line and chucks threes. I would rather use my last remaining roster spots on a young player that can turn out good, than on an old guy that you know is way past his prime.

The man that scored 12 3-pointers against Philly a couple years back and tied the record for most 3 pointers in a game lol. I guess signing him to a contract after being bombed like that seems reasonable haha, at least it gives insurance that he won't do that again to them.

Its not surprising why people think raptors fans are the biggest jackasses on Realgm when you read comments like the ones above...

Not exactly, personally I see this signing as a 'knee-jerk' reaction by Phili after witnessing a never to be repeated performance by Marshall. Just like Bucks taking an interest in CV after being scored on 48 pts. Philly got bombed.... bad a few years back, and the sixers obviously have kept an eye on Marshall then.

But as everyone has seen, Marshall has been no where as effective these few years and likes to sit at the perimeter to bomb 3's instead of banging and going in. That to add that his percentages ain't that great either.

He's washed up, and don't be expecting too much for him other than 'vet presence'.

A knee-jerk reaction? Marshall had that great season in 05. Three years have passed...Normally that happens instantaneously, or in the leagues case within an off season... We signed him out of necessity because Jason Smith (athletic big man who can shoot and has good upside) went down for the year.

If he can knock down 1-2 3 pointers every other game, the signing will have been a success for us. We're not expecting Marshall to be a significant contributor. He'll be at the end of the rotation for his position. Maximum 8-10 mins for him. The "vet presence" is exactly what we're looking for.

Raps fans need to stop assuming that the sixers think they've signed the missing piece to winning a championship in Donyell Marshall. Trust me, we're realistic about our expectations...

You honestly believe the Philly organization signed Donyell because of a game he had many years ago? Just stop, seriously.

Donyell is washed up, but Philly is rolling the dice. I don't think he will be productive, even in practice. But if a team is going to give him a chance, and one will, it might as well be a team with a big question mark in shooting. I predict no risk, no reward.

Eyeatoma try not to generalize dude.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

You're right I shouldn't generalize, but lately quite a few raptors fans just try to pick fights...It gets annoying...

I know there are quite a few knowledgeable raptors posters, this is the first time I'm actually calling the board out. But theres a reason...

I can vouch for that. I live in Toronto, and I can tell you there's lot's of Raptors fans that know the Sixers are better than them.

we only signed him to a vet minimum so it aint a big deal. we dont lose anything with this signing. if he gives us anything then GREAT. if not then fine. he will be gone after this season anyways. there's no risk involved in this
