Ben Gordon negotiating with CSKA MOSCOW

Post#1 » by cdcastellon1 » Tue Sep 2, 2008 11:43 am

"Another article about Ben Gordon has surfaced. According to greek website contra.gr the CSKA Moscow has made an offer to the NBA superstar of 5.5 million dollars per year whereas Gordon seems to want more a bit more, around 7 million dollars to match the contract the Childress got from Olympiakos.

The jamaican shooting guard was born in London and that gives him a dual nationality, so he has both jamaican and british nationalities and he is also a member of the British National Team. Gordon rejected an offer earlier this year from the Chicago Bulls for 6.4 million dollars. Although if you take into consideration the NBA taxation system that would leave him less than 4 million dollars in net profit.

The article says that the whole matter will have ended by Wednesday and Ben Gordon will give his final answer. He was the leading scorer of the Chicago Bulls last season averaging 18.6 points 3.1 rebounds and 3 assists in 72 games."

5.5 million dollars net in europe equal to around 9 million dollars in the USA gross. Tomorrow more news.

I am curious as to what Chicago has been offering. Last I read, Gordon wanted a deal around $65-70 million, which he just isn't going to get from any NBA team. I thought the Bulls were offering about $45-50 million for 5 years, which I think is still overpaying for him, but for a guy who is looked at as a 6th man by most teams in the league, that is a great deal.

Gordon is an idiot

Stay with the Bulls and play with his teammate Deng for 6 years 59 million a year, get high paid endorsements, and have a long term future.
or
Go overseas, where you have no guaranteed contract, sign for LESS than you'd be making now, and get little to no high paid endorsements with no long term future.

Good choice, but this is clearly him trying to speed things up and get the Bulls to ramp up the price.

honestly, I hope he does take off (sorry Chicago)...This guy is being flat out ridiculous, and Chicago doesnt need a player with this type of mentality around...he's already made it up in his mind that he's done there anyhow...peace out son...don't forget to pack a thick jacket...

Anyone who gives Ben Gordon 6-years, $59 million should require a mental evaluation. Ben Gordon obviously needs one, as well.

And to think that last year he turned down a much better offer from the Bulls. Idiot.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Never liked Gordon much either. He puts up decent numbers, but in the end, that's all they are -- numbers. If he wants to go play in Russia, goodbye and good luck.

It also gives Chicago 10 more million to spend next season with Gooden expiring as well, Hughes in 2010. Even if Chicago makes a move or not (IE: Hinrich or Nocioni for Cap), they could have 30 mil to spend in 2010, or 20 mil to spend in 2009. Besides Gordon maybe great on offense, but he can't compare to Hinrich D plus Hinrich has a better FG% outside shot. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I dont see why so many people keep converting the money they make overseas to American dollars. If a player signs with a team overseas they will be living overseas and therefor buying houses with there currency (in this case Euros I believe). Now smart players will find a way to invest most of that money for when (if) they come back to the States but they will still be spending Euros for how ever long they are in Europe for so why convert it back to dollars?

He probably thinks, because he's the leading scorer, he should be the 'star' of the team - including salary. But his PPG is generally lower than most leading scorers. He's more of a Rip Hamilton type than a Kobe type.

He is a jump shooting undersized SG. His contract demands are nowhere near the actual market demand for that type of player. He needs to realize that.

Yea 10 million a year for him was more than fair. Either way 7 million tax free is a little more than what he was going to be making per year. He will be treated as a superstar in Russia too, since he'll more than likely be the best player in the league. Best of luck to him. Perhaps he improves his game, and makes a comeback in the future.

Most of the better players overseas get their houses paid for.

Just to give you an example, Sam Clancy, former USC player, plays in Spain and he gets his salary plus his house, cell phone bill, and car paid for, as well as plane tickets so his friends and family can visit.
