Wells Out For Opener

Post#1 » by LUKE23 » Tue Sep 2, 2008 8:32 pm

Ugh. Not a game we need OL issues with. Spitz moved to C, Moll (crap) to RG.

Sounds like Hawk, Pickett, Grant should all be ready to go, but I worry about rust with those three.

That's bad news. Espcially against the Queens D-line which is above and beyond the best in the business.

Terrible news, especially if he is out an extended period of time.

Cannot afford another injury on the DL or OL.

That sucks, one thing going into this season that scares me is the offensive line for the fact Rodgers seems somehwat injury prone.

Even if Favre got sacked & hit all game you couldnt knock him out of the game so if the o-line has similar issues like last year be it lack of consistiency or injuries it could end up being a much bigger factor this year obviously.

And thats even more compunded with the fact we dont have a veteran back at QB.(As of yet)

The Packers will probably go with a bunch screens and mis-dierection plays vs the Vikes to get that D-line of thiers off balance. If Rodgers just drops back and stands in the pocket he might not make it to week 2.The Vikes D-Line might be the best we will face all year.

Im sure MM and staff will come up with a great game plan vs the Vikes.

Keep the Vikes D-line off balance and dont let AP go crazy and theres no way the Pack will lose the game.

The good news is Spitz is a natural at C and should be fine.

The bad news is college & moll starting at Gs and lack of depth. Tho Barbre might be better with more experience. Can only hope Sitton heals fast.

I'll take Barbre over Moll any day of the week. I just do not understand the fascination with Moll.

Jason Wilde was doing his spot the other day and said the Packers weren't that thrilled with Wells performance last season.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It's really hard for me to guess how the line will hold up Monday night vs the Vikings great defensive line.

Take Colledge, from game to game, we never know which Colledge will show up. One week he'll be very good in pass protection and at least somewhat decent at run blocking, the next week he gets bowled over like a folding chair. Moll can be the same, even to a higher degree by when he plays bad, he plays really really bad.

How those three guys on the interior of the offensive line play will dictate a lot on who wins on Monday.

I read that too. That Wells got bowled over at times. IF Sitton & Barbre developed a Gs I bet Spitz would start at C even over a healthy Wells. Wells is OK but not special.

Huh, if Wells is mediocre wish we would have figured that out before signing him through 2011.

I can't tell any of these mediocre 4th round draft pick types apart at Guard anymore. Just plug two in and let the Vikes tackles have their way with them, and lets hope Rodgers survives.

On Scott Wells: "They feel they have a handle on it. He's going to get some treatment today and it could be one day or a couple weeks. He was very encouraged with his visit. We'll see how he feels in the morning."
-JS Blog

Latest news kind of encouraging for Wells. This came from today on JS Blog. Hopefully he feels good this weekend, might have an outside chance at still playing maybe.

Also, that same blog said Hawk looked good in practice and ready to go. Just will need to get cleared by the team doctor.

Spitz is probably better than a hobbled Wells at C, but Spitz is definitely better than Moll at guard, so overall the line will probably perform better if Wells plays. If he's not 100%, I think it's only a minimal difference though.

I read on Packers.com that KGB looked good in practice. Him getting his health back will be huge for the team, we really need his ability to get pressure on the QB.
