First Two Magic Games Look To Be On SunSports

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Sun Aug 31, 2008 1:59 am

I was looking at the FSNFlorida website and it looks like the first two games of the season are on SunSports.

http://www.sunsportstv.com/schedule_sunsports_magic.jsp

This could be a typo but hopefully everyone will be able to see the opener. I'll let you know if I can get anything confirmed. The Magic should be releasing their TV Schedule shortly.

The best solution though would be for a deal to get done.

I also found this blog that lists other areas in Florida without FSN Florida.

http://fsnflorida.blogspot.com/

There is nothing though on the areas with FSN Florida that are in Magic territory with no rights to the 35 Magic games.

An interesting read though.

One season of missing half of all Magic games and me begging for illegal links online was enough to cancel my Brighthouse account. I now proudly live in a Comcast home.
Kevin Durant tweeted:
"I wanna see Brian Scalabrine, Adonal Foyle, Fabricio Oberto and Zydrunas Ilgauskas in the dunk contest"

Sadly, this looks to drag on into the season. If the Magic start winning a truck of games, maybe then this gets resolved. Otherwise, another 1/2 season could easily get lost to the TV viewers. :(

What DirecTV package do you have to get all Magic games. I just got off the phone with them & according to the sales guy none of their packages offer FSN Florida, only Sun Sports. Because I'm a Dolphin fan, he tried to sell me the NFL Ticket Premier packet that includes everything but still no FSN Florida unless I wanted to purchase NBA League Pass. On top of making a switch, I'm looking to save money, he's trying to make me pay more money. The premier package is $64/mo for 4 months then goes to $104/mo but you can customize the package. That's definitely not what I'm looking for at this point.

Either this guy had no clue what he was talking about or maybe one of you guys can tell me something I can go back to them with.

Thats bull, we got DirectTV and we have FSN and Sun Sports and we do have the sports package. We dont have NBA league pass or anything like that. That sales guy is trying to screw you into getting NBA league pass which u dont need, what a douche.

Jam,

I believe if your local, you get the games on FSN and Sun Sports.

However, you would not get them on sports stations out of the area.

This is to protect NBA League pass and MLb Extra Innings.

I so hope they get an FSN deal done though.

Hate to be negative, but I don't see this getting resolved in the upcoming season -- if ever. If it didn't get resolved last year, why should we believe it will change this season? The only hope the Magic have is to wait out this contract and then try to work out something else that doesn't involve FSN. They overestimated FSN's ability to get a deal done and Bright House's willingness to negotiate a deal.

This feud has been going on forever. It started out as Time Warner trying to protect Sun Sports when it was a struggling network, but now that both networks are owned by Fox, it has evolved into a debate to highlight a bigger battle between cable companies and programming providers to try to limit what the cable companies pay for programming on their systems. Part of the problem is that ESPN has so many different stations, that it charges so much for ESPN and ESPN2 and that it throws in the other two networks so it can look like it is cheaper overall because it has so many stations.

The folks at Bright House must be college football and hockey fans because you can watch as much college football as you want and you can watch every Tampa Bay Lightning game during the season. (Not NFL football, though, because they won't add the NFL Channel either, though they did add the NHL channel.)

Bright House isn't adding FSN simply to prove a point -- that it doesn't have to. The same pissing match is going on in other cities involving Comcast and several other cable companies.

DirecTV loves this because they are your only option if you want to have even a chance of seeing most of the games. That is if there aren't rainy periods during the games that knock you satellite off the air and if you can figure out the correct mix of packages that you can afford.

One thing that will be interesting to watch -- if Bright House offers NBA League Pass again. They almost didn't get a deal done last year. They don't have one now because I checked in the other day to see how much they were charging for it on Bright House this year. And it still says details are not available yet.

Bright House will eventually be the first to buckle (won't be this season sadly for you cable guys).
I think if our team witnesses increased success even from last season, then you will see Bright House customers ditch for satellites. Suffering Magic fans also benefit from the Rays are playing damn well.

I've had Dish Network for almost a decade and I am forever satisfied. DirectTV is the same thing (just see which one you can get the best deal with). I get more Greek channels with DISH which is why I've still stuck with them.

If you have DirectTV and want to get FSN you can just get the second tier package, whatever it's called, and get the sports package. I pay $88 a month for my DirectTV with DVR and get all the games.

Update:

If the Brighthouse/FSN squabble is to be settled for Orlando Magic fans, it won't be until next year -- at the earliest. But there is some consolation for fans:

Twenty-six of the club's first 32 regular-season games will be carried by Sun Sports (23 telecasts) or available nationally on TNT (three telecasts).

That will leave Brighthouse and FSN most of the second half of the Magic's season to reach an agreement so all fans can see the games on FSN.

"We are encouraged by the fact that we were able to work with our partners to get the majority of our early season games on Sun Sports," Magic Chief Operating Officer Alex Martins said in a statement.

This atleast is good news, not that things are resolved but atleast Brighthouse users get to see 23 games early in the season on Sun Sports. Still no end in sight to the standoff between FSN and Brighthouse.

And looks like BS is back, eeeewwwwww.

Ooof! I tried to go Dish and it was such a horrible experience trying to just get it installed that I said forget it...

So I'm stuck with Bright house for now. :(

I heard on radio (am1080) this afternoon that 29 of the first 32 games of the season would be on Sun or national TV. I think I remember the numbers right.

Sadly, it will be surprising if this doesn't just mean that Bright House customers will miss all the games as the Magic are trying to make a playoff run or position themselves in the playoffs.

It also looks like all 82 games will be on TV this season especially since the National TV games are earlier in the schedule and not likely to be dropped.

This shows the Magic are making an effort here and while we will miss 6 of the first 32 games, it gives the sides more time to negioate and if they get off to a good start, it is really going to put the heat on the two sides to get something done.

I will say I am cautiously optimistic something is going to get done by January.
