Matt Barnes

Post#1 » by Twuan89 » Tue Sep 2, 2008 11:49 am

Do you guys think Matt Barnes could be the Jimmy Jackson of the 2005 NBA Playoffs?

For some reason I think Matt Barnes could be that guy who could give the Suns a spark like Jimmy Jackson gave the Suns in the 2005 NBA Playoffs if Grant Hill gets injured. Matt Barnes is athletic, good defensively, and good shooter. Plus Matt Barnes has playoff experience with the Warriors in 2007 upsetting the Mavericks.

I just have a that Matt Barnes could be the Jimmy Jackson of the 2005 NBA Playoffs what do you think?

Is this topic about Matt Barnes? The Matt Barnes from the Suns?

I think Matt Barnes will contribute a lot, and will give us what we wanted from Diaw last year, that X Factor. Matt Barnes' ability to hit the 3 is what we were missing in terms of swingmen since Jajo left. so yeah, in that regard Matt Barnes will be a big asset.

(that felt like that whole 'meow' scene from Super Troopers)

Haha, love the ST reference Tastic. In regards to the original post, I think Barnes will play a more important role than JJ did. He will bring the same energy, but also more statistics. I think he has the potential to make a huge impact on this team. Despite some of the silly moves this team makes via trades, they always manage to make at least one great signing in the offseason, and Barnes is that signing.

I loved watching this guy in the Warriors playoff run, and I think he could be a great role player off the bench. Even though it's only 1 year, still a great signing.

You guys will be shocked on what Matt Barnes does for our team this year. To be quite honest I believe our best pick up over the off season. Numbers wise on paper he looks alright. Just Imagine Bell and Barnes playin on the floor at the same time. Defensively we will be scary. Plus Barnes is another that can get his own shot and shoot an amazing percentage. He's goin to fit in just perfect with the squad.

I agree with most of you, but I also believe that Barnes is going to replace Hill in the starting lineup. Matt Barnes is going to impact our team like Raja Bell impacted the Suns when he came a board. His shooting ability, his defense and not to mention his athletism is going to somewhat replace Marions void.

Matt Barnes is going to be the most improve player in the NBA.. Mark my words..

Barnes is the best pick up we've had all summer. And I'm not saying this cause he came for cheap but because this guy was such a huge part of GS's success the past 2 years. Barnes will play minutes in crunch time because of his defense.

i believe he's going to start because of 2 reasons

- suns need youth on its starting lineup
- suns need hill when nash is resting so better start barnes

MIP? no comment. but he will be a bell type of a player with the ability to create his own shot.

Out of all the new Suns players, Barnes certainly is the one I am itching to see play - especially with regards to how he fits into the rotation, and how much of an impact he is going to have.

I think it's quite possible that he could replicate his numbers from 2 seasons ago with the Warriors - given the minutes, and a rise in his form.

As we'd say here in Australia, "Go Barnesy!!!"

I think Barnes it the type of player that can get an offense going. Not the way Nash does, but more like come off the bench and give the team a spark when the offense is stagnated. The guy can drive, he can shoot the 3 and defend. His minimum contract is a definite bonus for the Suns. I would've given him close to half MLE if it was up to me and keep him here for 2 years.

Barnes will be better than JJ because he's a tough minded guy like Raja. JJ battled confidence issue all season long where as Barnes is a guy who comes in and does his job. This is exactly the type of guy we need on our team if we want to win.

Barnesy?? That just sounds turrible, just turrible.

well considering both of those JJs never got playing time, then it must conclude to be Joe Johnson. so yes, if hes talking about the jones brothers i will agree but johnson, you must be kidding me. Boy did we had a stacked team back then...

James Jones got some decent playing time whilst with us. In actual fact he played right at 22mpg and even started in 3 games. Jumaine Jones on the other hand pretty much was non existent.

I was talking about James Jones. Let's not even mention Jumaine Jones.

When I say he's better than JJ, i mean he's more versatile than him. And as I've mentioned before about confidence issue, I don't think he'll have those problems. Playing in MD system is different to most coaches, in that you have to prove yourself in what little time you are given. Whereas Porter will most likely give spot minutes to even our 12th man just to use our bench. With Porter I think our guys (excluding starters and 6-7th man) will be more relaxed in that, they will get minutes they deserved. MD would use our bench only for garbage time.

In terms of given time to prove themselves, I believe that Barnes would still be better because of his versatility, while JJ is almost exclusively a spot up shooter.

well duh, hes better than James Jones. Even tho James Jones I think is a solid player, lacking confidence. Yes I know he got decent playing time, but not enough for him to actually fall in to place at where we knew he could be.

That 04/05 unit was my favorite in a long, long while.
