OKC Thunder: Yay or Nay

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Thu Sep 4, 2008 12:23 am

Not that it's much of a shock, but OKC officially named their team the Thunder today and unveiled the team logo and colors. I've NEVER been a fan of team names that do not end in the letter S hence I've never liked the Magic, the Heat, and even the Soul. Now we have the OKC Thunder and like it's ownership group, I think it's weak. Also, the team colors are going to be blue, orange, and red?? What the hell is that about?? Blue, orange, and red would seem appropriate if the team name was going to be the Oklahoma City Kool-Aid.

What are your thoughts about this? I was a fan of the Outlaws but I guess that didn't jive with the local university.

about time the WNBA expanded into the NBA.

What a terrible logo/name.

I just don't care. Call me a square, but it's just not fair. The Thunder shouldn't even be there.

One of the most boorish, lifeless and unimaginative logos ever. A shield with a basketball in it and stupid colors? Wtf? Is that strike-through supposed to be thunder? Did they know thunder isn't visible?

The combo of this logo and these colors really has me excited to see just how bad the uniforms are going to be.

Thunder??? Really??? That's the name of an NBA team now???

I could go either way with the name - The names always sound weird at first for me - The logo is just plain terrible - they could have made it badass looking but it looks unimaginative and cheaply colored - Woah they really broke the mold with the plain white and blue they mostly used - maybe soon theyll go even crazier and go for a mother of pearl or even *gasp* off- white and then maybe a navy blue but we all know sailors are sleasy since they go form port to port-

Seriously though an okay name with a terrible logo using bland colors - whats even lamer is they named it after a preexisting mascot which now puts GS in a weird position

After some thought it think it shoudl be the Oklahoma city road squirells - that would be a hell of a logo

LOL queue the AC/DC "Thunder" soundtrack whenever a timeout is called. They're going to make me hate that song, which is a shame, seeing that I love it...

It's an ok name, seriously though whoever made the logo should be fired. They should throw it away, and hire someone with more creativity. Its the worst nba logo in the league right now. Wheres the creativity, in this and where's the Thunder Bolt. Its look almost as bad as that generic logo there using before with just Oklahoma city Franchise.

This organization seems poor when it comes to keeping secrets it seems like everything leaks out before they announce anything about the team. I bet the jerseys will get leaked before they reveal them.

I have to say I am quite disappointed with the logo, name isn't too shabby. With that I bet even some posters here could make a better logo for the franchise. Its very generic, wnba look alike logo. It also doesn't match the name with that logo they might as well be called the Oklahoma City Defenders.

They will surely be the laughing stock in the nba this year, they might as well play in D-League because that logo looks like one and they will play like one as well. They will most likley win 22 games at most.

The name is pretty bad too, as are most names that don't end with an S. Kevin Durant is a Thunder.

You know they're gonna be nicknamed the "Bolts" like the Chargers are before long.

The name's so-so but that logo is TERRIBLE. I can see them salvaging the jersey if they go with a classic look. But that logo itself... needs a lot of work.

That sounds sad to me. He's a "Thunder". What does that even mean?

Also, I really don't understand why the logo is so bad. I know a number of graphic artists and if they were given a week (not 2 months) to work on a logo, they would have something that would look WAY more prefessional than the garbage this Clay Bennett guy just unveiled.

I know everyone here wants to own one of these...

Now I will say that the baby blue is a nice touch but if they were going to have a such a bad logo, did they also have to as generic a font as they do that reads "Thunder"??

Yeah, I don't know if you saw any of the speculation ones that were passed off as a leak until the official one actually came out, but those were a LOT better than this. These ones are just an eyesore.

It looks like one of the "design you own shirt" t shirt - its bad enough he moved the team but at least try to make it cool or even decent

If you're going to pick an unconventional name, like Magic, Jazz, or Heat, at least make sure it's identifiable. I agree calling someone a "Thunder" sounds dumb but we're being harsh. When was the last time you heard Dwyane Wade called a "Heat" or Dwight referred to as a "Magic"? If they're going to go this route they should have come up with something better than a shield with the team colors that looks like it was done in MS Paint. How about just the name spelled out in electric lettering or even a fierce looking thundercloud (too close to the Seattle Storm I guess)? They would been so much better off going with something like Bisons or Marshalls.
