Riley, Hakeem, Ewing and 4 others inducted into HOF

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing and Pat Riley were enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday night, but it was inductee Dick Vitale who, as expected, stole the show.

Others in the class, which also included Adrian Dantley, Detroit Pistons and Shock owner Bill Davidson and former Immaculata University coach Cathy Rush, gave speeches. But the ESPN commentator held court, preaching with passion for almost 30 minutes about everything from basketball to broadcasting to family.

no offense to him, but i never really understood whats so great about dick vitale. half the time it seems like he dusnt kno whats going on and he just starts screamin about something for no reason. but anyways congrats to these guys in getting to the HOF.

Dick vitale has done plenty to help spread the popularity of basketball. He deserves it.

Where are you from? Maybe you don't follow college basketball. Anyways the quick recap, he is annoying basketball commentator. He is a ACC nuthugger and cremes his pants whenever Duke plays...

I personally think it is a disgrace to have him among in the HOF with great players and coaches. It destroys the credibility of the idea of the hall of fame.

I can now say that I bought a polish chili dog at game 7 of the Blazers-Spurs series in 1990 for a hall of famer. W00t!

He's also one of the most respected and elderly statesmen in the world of college basketball. He is a legend. It's a disgrace that it took until now for him to be inducted.
