What do the Jays need to do to make the playoffs?

help from god

they are 9 back of boston,,5.5 back of minne who are in the central so would be harder to catch and there isaround 22 games left,, 2more series against boston so they might be able to make some strides there, except when you lose to them in these games it is like a double whammy, also the yankees would also have to fall although i think we can catch them(fingers crossed). My mind tells me there is not a chance but my heart still makes me watch every game and think to my self oh ya they can do it.

If you broodened that question the answer would be to play every month like they are playing of late,no matter how far behind in the game they are there is still a chance to come and win, and do ,kinda like the feeling you get when we play the redsox or them hateful Yankees and we take the lead,,,it is still in the back of your mind that they will probably come back and win

Jays' playoff chances are VERY VERY low. They have 22 games remaining and are currently 74-66. If they win all their remaining 22 games, they'd be at 96 wins. That's what it normally takes to make the playoffs (95+ wins). So it's kind of impossible.

way too late to make this run.. the Jays are known recently to go on this late little run at the end of the season, which always allows JP to make the excuse that we ended the season well, so no major moves should be necessary..

Now that the pressure is off the Jays are playing well. If we were to somehow get within striking distance of making the playoffs this season i guarentee we'd immediately play terribly. I say we have no chance of making the playoffs this year, unless we magically turn into last year's Rockies and refuse to lose anymore games this year. Even then, we'd have little chance because Boston is on a roll right now.

I guess there's always next year...or the year after that...or the year after that.

Agree with evil ryu.

And our chances are next to none. We won't make it. Don't count on it.

I also agree, it's too late. I do say, however, that 88+ wins wouldn't surprise me. This team is playing at a whole new level under Cito, he just is good at his job and always makes the right desicions. Our pitching has been magnificent as usual, but he's really hlping the batters out alot and putting the right lineups out there daily.

Heck, I'd say we could cut it to 4 GB of Boston IF we could win both series against them (2 out of 3 type of thing).

But, this is just me being optimistic and falling for the "September Jays" for the third year in a row

They would probably have to win every game....to make it in.

If they win tonight they'll have won 9 straight, to make the playoffs they'd essentially have to have 2 more 9 game winning streaks only affording one loss between them ,to go 18-2 in the final 20 and have 94 wins, which would probably be good enough for a playoff spot, the likelyhood of this happening isn't exactly 0, because mathematically it *could* happen, but the the Jays starters would have to be unconscious, the Jays bullpen would have to be....well....they Jays bullpen which IS unconscious, and offense would have to be consistent over the 20 games (which we know after seeing them, is highly unlikely) and they'll let the pitching down, which has been the story of the season.
