an option for 2009 possibly?

Post#1 » by glennathan » Tue Sep 9, 2008 4:50 pm

I know and I can understand why almost everyone wants us to resign Hedo. He is a great player and all and I would liek to see him here for another few years myself. But I started thinking about the situation. Is it even a possiblity to let Hedo go to another team and then make a run for Shawn Marion next year. He is an un-restricted free agent next year and I think he would make an excellent pair up next to Dwight Howard.

Marion could bring the defensive PF that we need and would still be in the same price range as signing Hedo would be (around 12-13 mill or so). Granted the offensive force and the ball control would be gone but It would definitely bolster our Front court. I just wanted to post this here and see what the general reaction would be. Please don't hate on me if this is a stupid Idea just let me know why it would be bad.

We can re-sign Hedo to a big deal because he is our free agent, i.e we have his Bird rights. Unfortunately, we will be over the cap next summer, meaning the only way to get Marion would be via a sign and trade, and I can't see Riley helping us.

ah I forgot about the bird rights thing. thanks for pointing that out and you're right I don't see riley wanting to help us out in a S&T especially for someone like Marion.

The only way I can see this working is if the Magic and Heat make a mid season trade. And then we are left with our best playmaker leaving, i am not in favor of that.

PG: Nelson
SG: Pietrus
SF1: Lewis
SF2: Marion
C: Howard

This would be a very good defensive team.
