Kirk Hinrich responses

Post#1 » by glennathan » Tue Sep 9, 2008 5:04 pm

I posted an article up on the Bulls forum just to see what responses I would get to this question

"What would it take for the Magic to get Kirk Hinrich from the Bulls seeing as how we are in need of another PG?"

I posted that question and here is the one repsonse that stood out. I would like to see what everyone on here thinks about it.

"Tony Battie + Keith Bogans + 1st for Hinrich if we resign Ben Gordon.

Though I doubt the Bulls would do that, but I would consider it to clear out the roster glut and have capspace.Bulls Beat #61 - Released 9/6/2008

We can't afford to lose Tony without another big coming back in the deal . I wouldn't wanna give up that pick either , so I would say no to that deal. With our cap situation we need those picks .

If it got us Hinrich, hell yes, we could afford to lose Tony. We could sign a band-aid to get us through this year, then look at the draft (depending on when that 1st rounder goes) or an MLE guy next summer. It's not like the Bulls are swimming in bigs themselves. Noah, Gooden, Tyrus, Gray, Simmons, and ... ?

Hinrich's contract is too big for Orlando to take on, especially if it is in a deal that sends multiple players to Chicago - we would drop to 12 players under contract for 2008-9, whilst taking on an extra $1.35m in salary. It would also reduce our already thin bigman rotation to Dwight + ........no-one. We all love Gortat, but he isn't going to be a major contributor just yet, and Foyle is in the declining years of his career.

Add to all that, Hinrich is barely an upgrade over Jameer, for $4.5m per year more. It would leave us in the same position as last season - point guard by committee with Nelson, Hinrich and Johnson - but spending roughly double the amount of $$$ we spent on that position as we did in 07-08.

Hinrich is way overrated and I don't want his huge salary.
We would get raped in this deal because we need Batman to keep our big man depth.

I can't believe you guys are saying no to Hinrich after the years of watching Jameer getting abused by opponent's pointguards. I would trade Hedo for Hinrich + a Bulls 1st round in a second. I don't know if the Bull would do it though as they have resigned Deng. Maybe Jameer + a 1st for Hinrich?

Hinrich is 10 times the player Jameer is.

He might be streaky (as is Jameer) and doesn't go to the rack that much, but Jameer goes to the rack like a chicken without head. Kirk is taller, plays defense, has a nice 3 point shot (streaky) and is a double digit scorer.

The downside of that trade is the depth issue, although Battie is injury prone, old and sucks, he is one of the few bigman we have.

I'd do it and then I would trade jameer's ass for a Haslem or something like that.

I'm willing to wait for another year to decide what Jameers fate it. I think he will really come through this year. The team chemistry will be at a high level, Rashard will be more comfortable, and D12 will be probably more dominant, and Hedo will probably still be last years Hedo if not better trying to make that money. Nelson can pass he just needs to limit his turnovers. If he can do that and get us around 6 apg, I'd rather him and his contract. Besides last year Hinrich averaged 11ppg,6apg. I wouldn't trade for an extra 4 mill to get about the same production.

I like him more as a PG but I don't think it is realistic considering his contract and then you would have 2 PGs making a lot of money. Also, we would need to get another big back imo in that deal.

Are u crazy? Hedo is much more valuable than Hinrich. Anyways, im not convinced that Kirk is a substantial upgrade over Jameer.

He is... forget about last year, the entire bulls sucked, but Kirk and SVG would be orgasmic.

I'm glad you and rafy don't run our team.

The Magic cannot trade Battie for a guard. There would then be no depth in the big's platoon.

Kirk is really no better than Jameer as a point guard, but he is much better defender. Defense wins so I would love Kirk on this team. I would never trade Hedo to get him though.
