Bears re-sign Fred Miller

Post#1 » by CBS7 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 3:47 pm

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Wednesday bolstered their offensive line by re-signing veteran tackle Fred Miller to a one-year contract. Chicago made room on the roster by waiving rookie tackle Kirk Barton, a seventh-round draft pick from Ohio State.

Fred Miller: I was hurt in 2007
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/fo ... 3000.story
Fred Miller's return to the Bears on Wednesday started on the wrong foot — or ankle, to be precise.

The veteran tackle, released after last season, said his right ankle wasn't healthy throughout the 2007 campaign, which might have explained his struggles.

"I was probably playing about 40 to 50 percent," he said. "Once I had my surgery taking out the bone spurs and the cartilage that was floating around, it's back to 90 percent.

"It's never going to be 100 percent, but right now it feels pretty good."

Ahh so this explains the 5 false start penalties a game out of him

I guess its good they have a veteran in case of injury, but really people develop a good lineman. The best lineman they drafted this decade (2000 on) is playing in Dallas and their starting RT. I bet the Bears look line again Rd 1 this year and they need to keep doing so until they have two bookend tackles. A running football team cannot have such an average line AND qb.

I don't mind this signing. We need help and depth on the line, and Miller is a proven player. However, we can't keep adding vets. At some point we are going to have to stock the line with fresh young players.

At this point in the season you're not really going to do much better.

The Bears wanted Kirk Barton back on their practice squad but he was picked up by Miami.

This pickup can't hurt.

According to KC Joyner's source the Bears O-Line is the real deal :eek1:

BAD PLAYS

Carolina (vs. Chicago)
The Panthers scored eight fantasy points against the Chargers last week, but it was largely due to a touchdown return. Take that play out and they totaled only two points against an offense with a retooled line. The Bears aren't likely to pass the ball very often, so sacks and interceptions will be hard to come by. In addition, my scouting eye says Matt Forte and the Chicago O-line are the real deal.

Never saw this coming!

I imagine Carolina will start to stack the front against Orton and daring him to throw.

Should be interesting.
