All NBA Football Team

Post#1 » by bsutefan » Thu Sep 11, 2008 3:37 pm

Check out this article. Many of the players who were placed on this team have no football experience that I'm aware of, while many others may have had a real shot at going far in football.

Here's the link:

http://thesaltpalace.blogspot.com/2008/ ... n-nfl.html

Ask most fans who the best TE in the NFL is, and most would answer Antonio Gates. Ask those fans where Gates played college football, and few will respond. The truth is, Gates did not play football in college. Gates excelled on the hardwood leading his college team to the Elite Eight. After college, Gates used his athleticism to open doors in football.

So, without further delay, our blogger staff unveils our All-NBA Gridiron Squad.

It's surprising how many NBA players have a legitimate background in football. Guys I would have never guessed (Allen Iverson) were some of the most highly recruited athletes in the nation while in high school.

I actually like the original list on the blog a lot lot. Most people would put NBA Superstars on the their football team because they would automatically assume that NBA success means that they would have success in the NFL too. But they didn't discriminate, as you see guys like Dee Brown, Devin Harris, Marcus Banks, Matt Harpring, and Eduardo Najera on that list.

Good work.

I would change two things though...

Nate Robinson moves to RB, Dee Brown switches to DB. Not a big fan of short DB's.

And, I would keep Devin Harris for primary or secondary WR and AI for the slot WR, but take off Steve Nash and replace him with someone freakishly athletic who is around 6'4 or 6'5 for the Randy Moss-type receiver. Probably put D-Wade at WR and put someone like Josh Smith at safety who is of a Sean Taylor-type mold.

Iverson was a higher-rated QB in high school than Mchael Vick.

LOL @ WR Steve Nash. Nash is the kicker, even has the soccer background.

RE Dee Brown @ RB. 6-0, 185 is not compact in NFL terms, Reggie Bush is 20 lbs heavier at the same height and is a finesse/speed back. NFL-type compact is more like 5-10, 230 - not a mold a whole lot of basketball players fit. Brown would get broken in half within 5 carries. A bulkier guy like Deron or Baron would fit much better.

I'de take either Nash Iverson, or Ray Ray as a QB, but Chauncy's a pretty good choice

Howard yeah, but he'd have to do some serious leg work. Dude's top heavy he might blow over running into a head wind.

Lebron was a top rated receiver in football with offers to colleges.

They have a pretty good list going there. But I'd add a few guys, I think Craig Smith would be an amazing OL at 6-7 272 he's not too tall for the line and he's got a huge frame. I also think David West would be a good DE he's got long arms and he's quick he could be a Jason Taylor like DE. The last guy I would add is Andre Iguodala at MLB with his speed and strength and gritty mentality he'd be a force out there.

I think it would be really cool if once a year a football team was composed of NBA players, given a couple weeks to practice, and then go up against a fan selected NFL team. Probably sometime during the NFL preseason when it's slow in the NBA.

My team

QB) Allen Iverson/Jason Kidd
RB) Baron Davis/Nate Robinson/Jerryd Bayless
FB) Travis Outlaw
WR) Jason Richardson/Kobe Bryant/Devin Harris/Vince Carter
TE) LeBron James/Josh Smith
LT) Andrew Bynum/Erick Dampier
LG) Elton Brand/David West
OC) Dwight Howard/Brendan Haywood
RG) Jason Maxiell/Ronny Turiaf
RT) Josh Boone/Kwame Brown

WSDE) Emeka Okafor/Marcus Camby
DT) Glen Davis/Eddy Curry/Kendrick Perkins
SSDE) Sean Williams/Nene
WILL) Ben Wallace/James Posey
MIKE) Kevin Garnett/Matt Harpring
SAM) Ron Artest/Eduardo Najera
CB) Chris Paul/Rajon Rondo/Dee Brown/DJ Strawberry
FS) Dwyane Wade/Marcus Banks
SS) Gerald Wallace/Bonzi Wells

K) Steve Nash
P) Leandro Barbosa
KR) Devin Harris
PR) Devin Harris

I think both Wade and Lebron would be pro-bowl football players if they decided to go on that track back in HS.

Lebron at WR/TE would be nearly unstoppable. Wade at WR would be sick nasty....I think he would be a great RB too but maybe too tall and he could prob dominate at FS.

Would Chauncey be able to see or throw the ball over his offensive line? Isnt that a massive offensive line? The team sounded good until i reached that point.

So true. We are all forgetting that our O-line is extremely tall. Unless of course, these guys aren't playing on the same team and they are on different teams.

But if they are on the same team, Chauncey wouldn't cut it. We would need someone taller, maybe Brandon Roy.

Amare would get lit up at WR, he's too tall and thin for the NFL.

People don't realize how much thicker guys are in the NFL. Dwight is a beast at 6'10 265 in the NBA, but when he goes over the middle and gets hit by a 6'2 260 pound linebacker his legs are going to snap.

This whole thread is disrespectful thinking LeBron or Wade could just step into a starting lineup and be pro bowlers.

All of these guys would have to put on a good amount of muscle before they could play significant time in the NFL, then we would have to see how all the athletic ability holds up with extra muscle.
