I could easily see Amare becoming a solid defender. Wanting to become one is half the battle.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

^ bingo. Any elite level athlete that gets proper defensive instruction, doesn't have to expend all of his effort on the offensive end, and as mentioned above shows the will and effort to play on the defensive end should become a very good defender. With Amare I believe it's both all about effort and proper defensive technique. As we all know our previous coaching regime did not pay much attention to or practice on the defensive end.

We can all agree that Amare is not going to be a reared defender. But Amare has improve with every other aspect of his game. I do see him being a good defender, I just can't see him being a great defender yet. Be prepare to see a lot of Amare,Lopez and Barnes as the suns front court. I for one, like that like up a long with Raja Bell and Steve Nash.

determination and dedication to Defense is all it is. Only if he would be as dedicated to his defensive game as he is to his mid-range jumper. I expect to see a tremendous improvement in his D this year. Maybe 2nd Team all-nba perharps.

Well now that he's back to PF he has Dirk, TD, KG, Boozer, Gasol, Bosh etc to contend with for the All NBA power forward spots...won't be easy

He doesn't have to be elite... he doesn't have to be above-average. He just needs to put in the effort, which will dramatically alter the disposition of impact from his defensive checks.

If he's getting his hands up and altering degree-of-difficulty, moving his feet and trying to get to spots on time and such, that's 100% enough for me.
