Wiretap: Bird Hates Using The Phone?

Post#1 » by Scoot McGroot » Fri Sep 12, 2008 8:53 pm

Many people are still wondering whether or not the Pacers' Larry Bird will be able to handle complete control of basketball operations because he despises using the phone, according to Indianapolis Star.

Bird has swung a few moves this summer with both Toronto and Portland despite his distaste for talking on the phone.

"You're right, I'm pretty short on the phone," Bird said back in late March.

David Morway, Indiana's general manager, has helped fill some of the void left by Bird's shortness by being very accessible.

Any thoughts?

Maybe this is why any Tinsley deal is going to take forever. I think Morway is the saving grace working with Bird in this franchise.

How very odd.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Speaking from experience, working in sales for over 7 years, Bird has a very dry personality. He is not engaging like Walsh for example. I think a key to negotiating is personal communication skills. From what I ve heard about Bird he lacks these qualities. I imagine Bird comes across like he did in his playing days....atttack, attack. Though that works on the ball court, not necessarly in negotiations. I think having Moray helps more than we know

He knows the FEDS are tapping the phones!

Tinsley/Williams have been advised by their lawyers not to discuss anything over the phone .

couldn't resist

This is odd. It doesn't matter if you hate the phone, you could suck it up to make a deal - though I guess we shouldn't question his methods as he has gotten it done so far this summer.

Ehh, phone calls are so twentieth century.

I'm sure that Larry Bird is a master of the e-mail/IM/text message. Right?

Right?

Maybe he watches a lot of The Wire. Can't blame him for being safe, just in case.

On a serious note, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Actually, I like that he's brief and to the point. It gives other teams the idea that you can't talk Larry Bird into anything, because he simply won't. I'd much rather he be brief than someone you can't shut up.

I Think the whole point was only a kid , someone totally unexpected, could kill him. Thats why Omar hears Kennard walk in the store, looks at him, then looks back at the Lady behind the register. If it was a man who walked in the store, Omar wouldn't have been shot, or at least pulled his gun out. Funny thing is , when he walks in the store, his limp is gone! Must have been an error that didnt get editited

Yeah, completely unexpected. Omar would have definitely been on the look out if it was a man that walked in the store. He just let his guard down when he saw it was a little kid. I didn't notice the thing about his limp though lol. That's funny.
