STT: Crystal Ball- moves by Ed over next 12 moths

1st Season tracking thread. I will bump this later in the season as we see how things play out.

Ed did a great job turning this team around over the last year (maybe BK and luck had something to do with it too.) But this likely is not yet a finished product. We should learn if the lack of shooters is a big issue, and how the pieces fit and develop. What do you think Ed/Mo will do to tweak and upgrade the team over the next 12 months? Why will he make the moves?

My only definite prediction:
1. Add a core rotation player who is a great shooter- like a KK, but maybe more athetic. Likely using the MLE next summer, or possibly part of a Miller deal.

Other possibilities:
1. Trade away Miller (or let him expire) vs. extend Miller.
2. Lou Will bumped to starter at SG or PG?
3. Will Thad be moved back to the bench if he is not ready to start on the wing?
4. Make a move for a new PG (I'll throw out AI for the benefit of a certain poster.)
5. Sam Trade- I see this further down the line if Speights can become a center and is to good to have on the bench.
6. Trade away Evans or WG?
7. Sign Bobby Jones

Bring back Hill from Europe

Is that before or after AI signs for the MLE :lol:

I'm not sure how AI and B-Ditty can co-exist in the same backcourt... And how will Mo ever find enough minutes for AIG, Lou and 2Young1?

I think AI will be on a new team by February and that he'll re-sign with that team. Who that will be, I do not know. Maybe Charlotte! :-P

Having Iverson back, would be compelling but something it is better to have less than more. So I guess we will address our shooting woes and sign a KK or James Posey type of player during the offseason.

I don't think we will see any trades during the next season. Daly, WG and Evans are pretty much untradeable and I hardly believe that we could upgrade or find a better replacement for Andre Miller.

I also think the chances of us making a trade in season is slim for the upcoming year but if there is a deal, I think it will be a fairly minor one with us maybe moving Reggie Evans for an expiring contract should Marshall/Speights show that they can handle the role of backing up Brand.

I think the team will be pressured to either extend or trade Miller. My guess is that if there is early success he will be extended.

1. I would try and extend Miller for 2 years. If I couldn’t do that I would try and get a sign and trade with another team. It’s important not to lose that $10 mil in salary. Phila. Is over the cap by close to $ 8 mil.

2. I hope your right about Lou because Phila. Could use Millers salary to bring in a shooter.

3. Thad is going to be as good as Granger so staying in the lineup won’t be a problem. Young shot 41% from 3Pt land in college. Look for him to be more accurate and shoot the 3 more often this year.

4. Phila. Will draft a PG next year with the first round pick.

5. Speights is going to be the center of the future for Phila.

6. Agreed, continue to upgrade bench.

7. Same as 6.

I agree in the long term, but how effective will he be both shooting and handling from the wing this year?

Thad played the wing in college if I'm not mistaken. The wing is his natural position.

Yes an no. Thad played mostly PF in HS (although I'm sure he handled the ball a lot given his skill level.) He played the wing in college, because that's where he projected on the next level. Part of the reason he slipped to #12 after being a top 3 HS recruit was that he was not dominant at the SF position as GT. I think had he played more a hybrid SF/PF, and was given a chance to show his ability in the post and on the boards on the college level it would have helped his pre draft stock.

I remember reading before the draft that he was a poor rebounder because he was of the only big name college guys over 6'6 to average less than 5 rebounds per game. Obviously that stat was misleading after watching him hit the boards as an undersized PF last year.

I'm interested to see how 2Young1 does on the wing. I think his first step and shot mechanics are good, and he probably won't be asked to do too much. I'm hopeful that he will develop into an elite SF, but I'm not sure what to expect from him this year.

Young sucked in college because he didn't play to his strengths, and he tried to develop his sf game during the actually college season.

He pretty much knew he was going to be one and done, and he knew his NBA position was going to be a SF, not a PF, so he hung out on the wing and took jumpers, he also tried to slash more, which wasn't his strong suit.

But as the season went out he started develop it more and more, his last 10 games or so he really exploded.

The problem most scouts had with Thad, was in college he didn't play to his strengths, like posting players up and crashing the boards, so they doubted his bbasketball IQ.

But once he reached his goal of making it to the NBA, Thad just do whatever the coach asked of him, that's why he surpised everyone last year.

I can definitely see Ed waiving Kareem Rush. If you think Willie Green is bad for his chucking and ball hogging, you ain't seen nothing yet with Rush. He won't last 2 months on this team.

If Stefanski really is looking towards the future, and if Miller really is kind of lukewarm about resigning here, I would still consider (even at the risk of upsetting team chemistry before the playoffs) trading Miller at the deadline...

Hinrich?

Billups?

Like somebody said, if we don't extend him, we almost have to trade him before the deadline - otherwise all we have to work with next summer is the MLE. And I've come increasingly to the position that Miller is just about at the end of his rope as a top-tier PG...his fade in the playoffs was not something I want to take a chance with over the next 2-3 years.
