Marion and Joe Johnson, if you had've settled for a bit less then you may have already had an NBA Championship by now....

You are aware that a lot of players don't have "Winning the Championship" as their top priority when they step out on to the court don't ya? Just curious. Marion and Johnson obviously are two of those guys.

In response to what Frank Lee said, I have heard something about trade rumors and such netting us KG, but what was the trade deal suppose to look like exactly?

^^

Marion to Boston
Al Jefferson + filler (Kurt Thomas) to Minnesota
KG to Phoenix

Marion didn't want to go to Boston.

So Swannie was a cancer...a whiner, a headcase... I'll agree. But bottom line says he would still be a SUN if Miami had not called and offered the BIG LOAD. There were no other deals out there. He snubbed the KG trade... then stated he wanted to be traded because he was disrespected for being offered on the table. Go figure. When Rielly agreed to takes Banks off our hands it was an extra bonus. I think I remember reading that the Suns front orfice was very surprised to have the opportunity to trade Marion...which to me, means they had exhausted almost all other avenues to cancel the cartoonkid.

Isn't the main reason he was traded that you had seen that the team with him wasn't going to win it all?

I know about the suspensions and the injuries as reasons/excuses for that being so but I think that if management had thought that they had a real shot at a title then they would have put up with all the problems to make it happen. They took a gamble that bringing in Shaq would solve the problem of playing Amare as a 5 and put him where he belongs at the 4 and that Shaq would give them a bit of a half court game when they needed it.

The Suns needed to get bigger and stop playing out of position at the big men spots to match up better with the more traditional, bigger, balanced squads. As well as the contract situation being iffy.

Think they could of went about it better than a declined Shaq, though. Not a bad option, but think there were definitely better options as possibilities.

I don't know what to think about the attitude and the offensive-role feelings, because I've heard conflicting info on that numerous times. I do know there was something there, though, because of comments I've read from Marion. But collectively in the Nash-era? Don't quite know.

Marion without a PG like Nash or CP3 is still a good player, but not nearly as efficient. With respect to basketball it's unfortunate his ego got in the way. I understand his desire to be respected though. His name constantly came up in trade rumors and that is disrespectful.

The loss of Marion hurt Nash's game in my opinion. Nash is not as effective without Marion and playing a slower half-court game. The Suns still got up and down after Marion left, but only in spurts, not all game like they used to.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

actually the taxes almost even out since the players earn their incomes in a bunch of different states (as visiting teams) kind of interesting. So since they play more in-division against the magic too, over half their games would have the lowest income tax, but the tax is specific to the state each game is played in I believe. Kind of complicated.

Could we get Marion back? Scenario...

Matrix will have to be signing a new contract soon, right? All indications is it will be for far less money then he is getting now. When this happens, and assuming he signs at fair market value, SUNS could offer a full TE from the new cap space generated from Shaq and Nash. All Kerr has to do is start dropping hints with his league contacts over the next 12 months.

Florida and Texas don't have state income taxes. Players are taxed pro-rated by other states based on how many games they play there. The NBA does not try to control state tax policies-except for funding new arenas-so there is no make-up :D . This gives Florida and Texas very slight edge in Free Agency. And why a number of pros maintain homes in Fla and Texas, claiming residency to avoid taxes on outside income.
A Magic or Heat player who plays the one game in Phoenix pays Ariz income tax based on 1/82 of his salary. Conversely a Sun who visits Miami doesn't pay state taxes on 1/82 of his salary. An NBA player on a Texas team gets @55% of his salary exempt from state taxes, while a Sun coud get as little as 7% exempt.
