Exploiting Tom Brady's injury

Post#1 » by campybatman » Thu Sep 11, 2008 8:28 pm

Wow. People are so tactless. I dislike certain players who play for teams not the Patriots. However, as a Patriots fan, I would prefer to have the Patriots defeat a team at 100% than minus one or more of their key players. But, then we're talking about New York and New York fans.

Lampman, who has a silk-screen printing company in Pittsburgh, has unveiled t-shirts that laud Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, the man who knocked Brady out for the season, as some kind of hero.

For $19.99, you can buy a Bernard Pollard fan club shirt, complete with a No. 12 (Brady's number) circled and crossed out. The shirt says the fan club was established Sept. 7, 2008, which is the day Brady went down.

Sick.

To me, this is a sign of how demented some fans have become.
Lampman doesn't argue the point.

"I can totally see where you're coming from," said Lampman, who is a diehard Steelers fan.

Isn't it crass, I asked?

"I can't disagree," he said.

So why do it? There's sadly a market out there. I spoke to Lampman Wednesday night for five minutes.

"I've sold six while we were talking," he said.

So who's ordering? The New York Jets fans are buying them with on addendum.

"They want them sent overnight so they can have them for Sunday," Lampman said.

Disgusting.

Don't people who buy these shirts realize that this is a man's livelihood we're talking about? When I mentioned that to Lampman, he callously replied, "he's not losing any money this year and I'm sure it's no career-ending."

Pollard can't be happy about this. He was sick about putting Brady out.

It's one thing not to like a player if you're a fan. It's another to make light of a serious situation.

In related news... Notice the biased reaction to Schilling no doubt a New York loyalist's narrow minded point of view. Is Schilling opinionated...? Yes. But, don't gloss over his point. The New York fans' reaction to Brady's season ending injury is unreasonable.

Schilling takes shot at Jet fans

The loudmouth Red Sox starter, who is sidelined for the entire 2008 season following shoulder surgery, sounded off on New York's sports fans for reveling in the fact Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss the entire season.

"The euphoria in New York is palpable," Schilling told WEEI Radio in Boston. "The Yankees suck this year and they are bitter and mad and making excuses over that. Now they got Tom going down so New York's excited. It's unfortunate, but when you crawl to the top of the pile you will have people trying to knock you down."

Not quite the top - Schilling apparently forgot the Giants own the Lombardi Trophy after beating Brady and the Patriots in last year's Super Bowl.

After blasting New York fans for being enthused over Brady's injury, Schilling took the time to remind Pinstriped loyalists he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks when they beat the Yankees in the 2001 World Series.

"I was front row and center when their 'dynasty' ended," Schilling said.

Schilling then praised the fans of Boston, who have long been known for respecting the Yankees and rooting for nothing but good health for their stars.

"They want us to be as bitter and mad as they are," Schilling said. "Unfortunately, it's not going to happen."

Schilling also guaranteed a Patriots win in the Meadowlands Sunday over the Jets when the two rivals meet in a much-hyped early-season showdown.

"The sad part is going to be when they beat the Jets next week," Schilling said. "Then they are going to come up with something else."

This article is somewhat more objective but not really. But, it does draw some interesting questions of Schilling's own reaction to this. Makes you think Schilling's a self promoter or likes to keep his name in the news.

Besides, when did Schilling become such a Patriots fan, anyway? I thought he was the lifelong Steelers fan. What, is he pandering to New England now or something?

Yeah he's a tool because he's one of the few athletes who has a spine and will speak his mind. Totally dude!

Yeah, he sorta seems like one sometimes. However I do prefer his candor to the mindless, rehearsed drivel the typical high-profile athlete uses in response to every question.
