Two Quarterback System

Post#1 » by unowen85 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 1:13 pm

I think it should be an option, opens up the playbook a little bit with Henne's ability to throw the ball in the air for more than thirty yards. You put in Henne, and have Bess and Ginn lined up, teams might back up their safeties a bit, gives more room for the running game. Pennington's in, teams expect shorter passes, but you could still surprise them trying for a deep throw. Play actions and screens become more effective when you have the defense guessing what's coming.

Thoughts?

I still am against throwing Henne in there, he looked good against a team that was playing soft... and also needed 8 downs on the goalline to get the score, don't forget. The people on thephins.com are already throwing Pennington out and want Henne in.... I just think in the long run it's a mistake... maybe for the last 1/3 of the season... not yet

Just a few series per game for a few games, then starting at the Baltimore game, 37% of the possessions, then by week 12ish, full time starter. And then dynasty.

the defense is the bigger issue
blechhhh

being down 17-0 in the first quarter isn't conducive to anything

also, Ronnie needs to be the primary RB and Ricky needs to be the guy who comes in and spells him.
Ricky doesn't have that speed to get to the corner and turn it on anymore but could be good once Ronnie wears them down and needs a breather... like Ronnie for 15-22 carres a game and Ricky for 7-10

I agree with Lane, Chad "Penne" is not the problem, no need to throw Chad Henne in there and give him a John Beck traumatic experience. Pennington has a few more games before the injury bug hits him again, at that time Henne should be ready.

Our problems on offense go beyond the QB (the opposite we've been saying over the last 9 years).
Our line is still young and if you watch the games closely, they are barely surviving the defense push. Penne has very little time to make decisions and with very little weapons around him, it makes it for a tough task. Also, with no running game, you can't expect Penne to become Brett Favre.

I am not even sure I could blame the coaches because the play calling has been great but when you best receiver (Camarillo) is nothing more than the 5th receiver on any other squad and probably not even make the team on certain teams (Patriots, Cardinals, Colts etc), you have serious issues. Our TE have to stay back to block because the line can't handle it and our RB's are our best weapons running screens or short passes with the defense sitting waiting for them.

We need more weapons and next offseason it should be a priority to get a top WR (Free Agency), some more OL (draft and FA)...

I don't want to throw Henne in there. I want to gently place him behind the center for a few series a game, and let him get some experience handing the ball off to Ronnie, getting comfortable with his line, and throwing some balls deep to whoever can stretch the field.

The defense is most definitely a bigger problem, but that's just something we're going to have to deal with until the draft. Keep developing Langford and Merling, abort the Roth at LB experiment and go with Charlie Anderson, and unleash Jason The Dragon Allen.

Start Jason Allen

Play Beck alittle, see if anything is there. We know that Henne is the QB of the future, but should be just forget about Beck, who we invested a pick on? I say give Beck another chance. Hopefully he shows something and we can turn around and trade him for something.

Let Ginn return punts and Kickoffs

Beck's best bet on getting another chance is to hope a QB or two in Baltimore get hurt and Cam Cameron Fails Forward Fast and trades for him. Other than that, I just don't see it.

Jason Allen MUST play. Let him suck at least. We need to find out about this kid. He has shown big play potential during games, we get the occasional mental mistake but can he be any worst than Crocker??!!!??
