Koren Robinson Back, more out

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:07 pm

Ok, so now Logan Payne went down with a torn knee ligament and Seneca is out with a calf injury.

Let's recap for mind boggling instant:

Deion Branch: Reconstructive knee surgery- likely back week 5 after the bye.
Bobby Engram: Broken Clavicle- likely back week 5 after the bye
Ben Obomanu: Shoulder injury- out for season
Seneca Wallace: Calf injury out indefinitely
Nate Burleson: Knee injury- out for season

Now lets see what we have left:

edit: Koren Robinson is back

RENTON -- The Seahawks' on-going search for a wide receiver has finally led them to a familiar face: Koren Robinson.

The team's former first-round draft choice was at the team's facility Monday night and was expected to sign a contract Tuesday after he passes his physical.

The ninth selection overall in the 2001 draft, Robinson was released after the 2004 season when alcohol problems were threatening his promising career.

Mike Bumpus- well from the practice squad to starter... that's never good. The one positive I saw with him is he does help on our return team.

Billy McMullen- last week I didn't even know his name. Now he's Hass's self described "go to guy". I like his size and he does seem to know west coast routes, but he also looked rusty and dropped that ball after the 30 yard catch. We can only hope he shakes off some rust and continues making some plays without turning it over.

Courtney Taylor- who what where in the... I guess he knows the routes but he's been terrible.

Free agent options-

Previously I wrote-
Damnitt Ruskell suck it up and get Robinson. Really Mike has all but called for it to happen and Tim needs to be a football guy here and not a youth corrections officer. Worst case scenario he's gone again or he hurts himself too, but he's 100 times the receiver of anyone left standing right now.

Now I will say thank you Tim. I love your character ethic, but desperate times... desperate measures indeed.

So actuall free agents... Glenn? Not me, I'd rather bring back Kent and get a new practice squad kid.

What we can do to stop the bleeding-

If we stop going to our receivers we're doomed, but we proved that the ball can be run. I suggest turning to a two tight end set. This will both allow us more blocking for the run and give us another guy in Putzier or Heller that has some experience. Carlson looks legit. He's basically our featured receiver right now.

Now that we have Koren in there we can stretch the field enough to allow for both the short passing game and the run. That's a big assumption about his headspace and conditioning right now, for sure, but we need someone who can go deep to keep the middle honest for longer runs and the Carlson show. Carlson, btw I'm all about on paper.. can anyone tell me what they've seen wacthing the games(I'm in cali)

Turnover- stop them, jeez. I expected some interceptions but the repeated fumbling is uncool.

other player moves: We have too many DE's. I believe in L Jackson... so is Tapp someone who could be packaged with a pick to get a real deal receiver?

Why Coutu still? In case we tank the season and cut the better kicker in Mare? That's my only real guess for that.

As a Seahawk fan, damn this is a depressing reality. I still find morbid interest in any effort to fix this though, and I'm still too stubborn to admit the season is over in week two.

Oh my God...apparently Seneca's out 3-4 weeks, and Kelly Jennings broke a rib.

Logan Payne is going on injured reserve because of a torn knee ligament and Seneca Wallace is out up to a month with a calf injury. They become the fifth and sixth Seahawks wide receivers injured this season. Payne is the second lost for the season.

Payne started Sunday's overtime loss to San Francisco, but was hit on his right knee as he planted his leg on his only catch in the first quarter. Coach Mike Holmgren said the 2007 practice squad player has an injury to his medial collateral ligament.

Wallace was a big part of Sunday's game plan as an emergency fill-in receiver. Then the backup quarterback pulled his calf muscle during pregame warmups.

Holmgren says the team will be looking to sign or possibly trade for more receivers before next Sunday's game against the also winless St. Louis Rams.

Cornerback Kelly Jennings has a broken rib but will play against the Rams

Yeah, Coutu, find another bench.

Oh, and sign Koren. And strengthen the special teams. And trade a DE.

Thank God we got Koren. I was gonna have to drive up the 101n and lodge my shoe in Ruskell's ass if he went no name again.

Good for Koren. Man, I hope he can come in and give Hass a good target...great chance at redemption for him.

My first thought was to make a Chris Henry analogy, although Robinson's situation is different. Robinson seems to be a genuinely decent guy who has just made some bad decisions, unlike Henry who is simply a toxic person. Hopefully he can contribute something.

I'm glad Koren is getting another chance. Clearly he's going to have 0 wiggle room, but I think that will be the only thing that will save his career at this point anyway. I too admire Ruskell's willingness to put character above all else. As a Blazer fan as well, character has meant more and more to me over the years. That said, no one is going to fault Ruskell, Holmgren or the Seahawks if they bring in Robinson at this juncture and he screws up. At some point you have to try to put quality able bodies onto the field--even if they have a past that you've tried to avoid. If he works out, great. He's certainly a better option than anyone else that is out there right now. But if he doesn't at least you gave the most talented receiver on the market a shot, and you move on from there.

I seriously think we should be giving Chad Jackson a look, too.

The just re-signed former first-round draft choice tweaked a knee Wednesday, which caused him to sit out the end of practice. Today, he took part in the early individual drills and then was a spectator as Billy McMullen, Courtney Taylor, Michael Bumpus and just acquired Keary Colbert were used in a variety of groupings as the team continued to prepare for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams at Qwest Field.

Oh man it's time to say it. Who has the tiki god?
