OK, let me preface this trade proposal by saying that this is a just-in-case type of deal.
If the Wolves can't get Love/Jefferson to work together in the frontcourt (both low-post PFs), nor Foye/Miller in the backcourt (both ball-dominant);
If the Clippers' twin towers can't keep pace with B-Diddy, Gordon and Thornton, and the team is having trouble keeping pace with the rest of the West;
If our Nets don't see VC getting us over the hump in our tough-as-nails division, and want to add capspace to perhaps pursue TWO bigtime FAs in 2010;
then this would be a deal all teams might consider. These are not far-fetched hypotheses, but it would take a few months to see how the season shakes out before any of the teams involved would be interested. So, pretend for a second that it's late December, and see what you (would) think:
Trade ID# 4769383
Our portion would be:
Carter, Swift, Hassell, Lopez, Williams
for
Camby, Miller, Mobley, Carney, Jordan
Our depth chart would look like this:
Harris, Mobley, Miller, Jianlian, Camby
Dooling, Roberts, Carney, Boone, Jordan
Well, what do you think? If we happen to stumble out of the gate (11-18 by mid-Dec), would this be a reasonable way for the Nets to stay competitive and exciting, but clear a path for the future? Keep in mind that we would keep the RFA rights of Miller, Mobley and Camby; we might be able to scare off teams for Marcus and Cuttino with our right to match offers, and re-sign them for the LLE or part of the MLE. Miller could fetch a nice ransom via sign-and-trade, or he could make a nice wing partner for a particular FA who shall remain Lenameless.

Not interested in giving up Lopez and Sean just for Rent-a-player Camby and Deandre Jordon. I am so glad we didn't draft him.

In case of what? Chances are we will be pretty bad, and Lopez and Yi will not be all that great their 1st year in a Nets uniform.

What is the real point of this trade? We could get a lot, I mean A LOT MORE for these guys seperately, let alone all together.
Well, what do you think? If we happen to stumble out of the gate (11-18 by mid-Dec), would this be a reasonable way for the Nets to stay competitive and exciting, but clear a path for the future?
What?! Are you expecting a better record than that by the 29th game! I hope not, cause then you are in for a long season! We might be better, but I am not expecting much better.
And what better path for the future is this?! We give up our 2 best prospects under rookie contracts, including Brook Lopez, who even if he becomes a bust, fell to us at the 10th when he was slated to be a top 5 pick easy! And we keep Boone, who will more than likely needed to be resigned to a decent size deal in the infamous 2010 FA period if we want to retain him.
Also I believe Miller will be a FA the same time.
For what?! The chance to be a better level of mediocre, make the playoffs as the 8th seed and miss out on a lotto pick all to get Jordan!!!!
There are better ways to clear out cap space then to trade away our best assets and prospects.
Keep in mind that we would keep the RFA rights of Miller, Mobley and Camby; we might be able to scare off teams for Marcus and Cuttino with our right to match offers, and re-sign them for the LLE or part of the MLE. No. Stop. Old or not you are not going to get Camby for less then very very close to the full MLE for maybe a 2-4 year deal with a team option at that time and that will not scare off a contender from raising the bar slighlty. And yes he might be worth it but still.
Who would even care if we kept Mobley after he comes off the books?
Miller will kill a big chunk of that extra cap room you so badly pined after and achieved.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
