“I’m just not seeing right now the aggressiveness from Tarvaris that I saw throughout the offseason, training camp, the two preseason games that he played in,” Childress said. “And part of it may be experience. I know Gus will give us that. And I know his approach will also lend itself to that.”

“I know there’s many other plays, there’s a lot of other people that have to step up,” Childress said. “But then when you go back through and look at the tape, and most importantly be able to sit across from the young man and want to be able to verify what you’re feeling—it’s kind of like looking in your kids’ eyes and saying one (thing) and feeling another.”

He showed in training camp this year that his 37-year-old arm still has plenty of juice in it. Wade said the playbook may open up with a veteran in there as opposed to a guy who has 16 total starts.

“I think the coach was keeping it limited for a reason, obviously not to try to put too much on a young player and trying to get a guy more comfortable and more confident,” Wades said. “You might see some things change this week with Gus back there.”

Well Childress just screwed T-Jax. If Tavaris wasn't ready he shouldn't have been pushed into the role in the first place. Now dude's career is in jeopardy. If they let Gus pass more obviously the offense is going to open up and there will be much more success. At least we will start getting some wins but I feel bad for Tavaris.

Childress seems confused on being an NFL head coach, but this was the best move available.

Hopefully Gus has something left in his arm. I wouldn't be opposed to dealing for Derek Anderson either while his stock is low.

Yea, this is probably the best move but I really don't like the way childless is going about this. He gets to wash his hands of everything and Tavaris gets to take all the disgrace. As long as Childless opens up the offense Gus is going to do much better. We will look like a new team out there and Childless will be a hero.

The criticism of Childress is well merited. He's made a few questionable decisions that have held this team back, but it's refreshing to see him cut his losses. He was in very real jeopardy of his defense mutinying on him.

Gus Frerotte can still play, and he throws a great deep out pattern. He's not much of a runner or even able to float in the pocket, so the OL has to tighten up. You're going to have to be patient with him though; the Panthers have 3 very good cover corners and their LBs all drop well.

I applaud the statement that "Gus is the man" for the rest of the season. That's smart, even if it probably ruins Jackson. This team is capable of winning the NFC with a legit passing game and they clearly weren't going to get that with T-Jax. One Vikings scout told me he believes T-Jax has already hit his ceiling, and that others in that locker room think so too.

I couldn't care less about Jackson or his career. Sorry, nothing personal but this is the NFL -- perform or sit your ass on the bench. I'm not under any illusion that 37-year-old Gus Frerotte is going to be the flawless, or even above average. But he gives us a better chance to win now, and that should be the only concern. Childress deserves as much blame as anyone for the mess at QB, probably more, but at least he realized it was time to make a move. We simply can't afford to let the hole get any deeper, or the season's virtually over and it isn't even October. That is unacceptable, just as Jackson's lack of progress is unacceptable.

Just the defense? What would it take for Zygi to pull the plug?

I'm not certain that this move is necessary, I think they could have had more success if they at least gave Tavaris the green light to make big plays. But from Childress point of view this is probably the best move. Still, I don't have to like the way childress went about doing this. I hate to see someone get thrown under the bus like that. Childress accused Tarvaris of losing his aggressiveness and not taking chances, etc. Um.. I'm pretty sure that's because you made him be less aggressive and neutered the passing game. Don't sit there and say that's all on T-Jax. I used to think Wittman was bad with this, looks like he has nothing on Bradly.

I think it's BS to boo your team and starting QB when they are up 15-0. I don't like how this thing played it on both ends. I grab the paper this morning and on the front freaking page in huge bold letters it says, IT'S ABOUT TIME! Give me a break, like we have been suffering for months on end and now Ferotte is here to save us. It really just pisses me off. We did the same crap to Brad Johnson.

ya you hate to see someone get throw under the bus, but i don't sympathize with Tavaris as much as you do, he wasn't getting the job done with the limited offense, so i don't think he would have been able to get it done with the full version

the team is 0-2 and you have major questions at quarterback, childress has to be aware that he could not have a job if this team doesn't do well, so if one player has to suffer for the good of the team, thats probably a chance he has to take, if he wants to keep his job
