OT: Trade talks involving Marion
I dont know if there is any interest in ex-Sun Marion. I didnt see a thread on this so I figure I'll let you guys know about talks involving him.
Here is update from a very trusted source.
Update per Tech N9ne: http://www.rumorpress.net/
The Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat have had on and off talks about different trade ideas involving multiple players. The key parts of these talks involve Ben Gordon and Shawn Marion. Marion last season in 63 games with the Suns and Heat averaged 15.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Yahoo! Sports and other articles coming out of Miami have reported the possibility of a trade and there is a lot of truth to these rumors. On 7.31.08 Rumor Press reported that Miami was trying to work out a sign-and-trade for Gordon, and since that time the Heat have been working very hard to get a deal done. The Bulls and Heat have actually agreed on a few trade scenarios, however there is only one thing that is holding up a deal, Ben Gordon. The Heat do not want to pay Gordon what he is asking for and are hoping he will change his stance and accept what many would call a “fair” deal. Until Gordon agrees on a lesser deal the Bulls/Gordon stalemate will continue.

Man, I wonder how Trix feels about this. He was tired of hearing his name in trade talks, and here they are again!
On another note, I'd rather have Shaq than Ben Gordon...

Re: OT: Trade talks involving Marion
Even though the guy was a locker room cancer, I honestly do feel bad for him. Traded from a championship-caliber team to a lottery-bound team can't be good for anyone. Despite the chemistry problems, his situation in phoenix was actually really good, he was most probably going to get a relatively above market extension if he had stayed in phoenix (and I'm not talking about the 20mil he asked for.)
About the trade rumors, I think they were nothing more than talks, I doubt they were really that deep into it either since they both knew beforehand about Gordon's demands. While having another scoring option next to Flash in the backcourt would be nice, the contract Gordon is asking for is ridiculous. Heats would be better off keeping Marion's expiring and rebuild. However I would contend that Marion would have a bigger role in Chicago than with the Heats because of Beasley. Not to mention Heats still have a very solid and much cheaper PF in Haslem. Marion didn't want to be the 3rd option behind Amare and Nash in phoenix (I thought he was a 2nd option since Nash is a facilitator) and now he's in the same situation except they now have two guys that demand the ball even more than Nash and Amare.

Re: OT: Trade talks involving Marion
The info indicates that Bulls & Heat have agreed on at least a couple of trade scenerios. Only problem is that Gordon is being difficult.
Marion would at least know that the Heat did agree to trade him; it's just that a deal may not go through due to Gordon
Yet if Gordon does lower his demands, it seems like a trade will happen. His Qualifying Offer expires Oct 1, so Gordon must act before that

Re: OT: Trade talks involving Marion
As I said in another post the SUNS could get him back if they wanted. He has to either sign a new contract with someone or retire. If he signs it isn't going to be for the kind of money he is seeking. If teams know the SUNS are interested in bringing him back they may well sign him to a reasonable contract to make a trade work to move someone they want to get rid of NOW knowing they could generate cap space via a TE with the SUNS once Shaq and Nash comes off the books.
This is all hypothetical of course.

I think the Sun's would like Trix back because of what he brings to the team basketball-wise, but his new contract would most likely go into the 2010 FA year, which we would rather have a lot of cap space for. As much as I liked the guy, I think it's better we sign a big time FA without the ego and problems.

Kind of an oxymoron isn't it?
I'd always welcome Trix back, but there's no chance Amare re-ups with him back IMO...

There's different types of egos. You have the positive ones that's good for the team ie. KG, the guy has an ego, but it's a positive one. Then you have the one's that kill chemistry ie. Marion.
I think there's a few big time FA's in 2010 who don't have an ego, like Bosh, Wade, Yao and Nowitzki. Not saying these are the guys we want, but it's just an example of big time FA's who don't have an ego, or if they do, it's not destructive.
I don't think Amare really pays attention to the guy, he knows he's the heir to the throne in Phoenix once Nash's contract is over, so i doubt Amare would have a problem with Marion coming back.

Wherever. Just keep him out of the West, especially the Hornets.

Re: OT: Trade talks involving Marion
I fail to see why anyone would want Marion back. He wanted off the team because of his ego and chemistry issues, so why would we welcome him back? Why don't we get Marbury, Artest, Ben Gordon over here as well?
The sad thing is that the 3 mentioned above have actually been discussed herein.
It would be "totally awesome" to have Iverson, Kobe, Marion, etc on the same team but that logic only holds true in video games.

miklo: I can tell your not a suns fan, saying that you dont want marion back. That guy has done so much for us. Id trade Miami, Barbosa, and Diaw to have him back here. Yes small problems with the guy. but NOTHING major, he still played, he kept cool, nothing serious ever happened with him and amare, Its just normal bs. Come back Marion!

I can understand the move for the Heat, what with Beasley coming in, and Haslem also at PF, but Marion should play well with a renewed Heat lineup including a healthy Dwyane Wade and NBA ready rook Michael Beasley. Plus, realistically Gordon in a Heat uniform next to Wade I don't think suits - coming off the bench maybe, but Gordon is definately deserving of a starting gig in the league.

Re: OT: Trade talks involving Marion
Would be a great trade for Chicago. It's Marion's hometown and he has a lot of family there. Would love to see it happen for him considering it still saddens me how it all ended in Phoenix for the guy and the style we played.
Makes no sense to me for Miami. I understand the need to shed some of the logjam at power forward. But for Ben Gordon? Who plays point guard in that backcourt? Might as well let Marion's contract expire or wait until the trade deadline and see what transpires instead of overpaying for a guy who plays the exact same position at D Wade and has no point skills whatsoever. I still think Chicago will pony up in the end for Gordon because I think he'd be a really good fit with Rose.

Rose and Wade seems like pretty similar players to me... I don't see how BG would fit much better with one than the other.

What? You mean they will pay pay him the $70 million that he wants - althought the Bulls feel he is not worth it & apparently all 29 other GMs agree?
Sorry - that just will NOT happen. the owner has made it plain that this is the final offer : 6 years/$59 million. They have made it plain that they will not go higher because they refuse to pay Lux Tax. They also have sent messages to other teams that they will trade Gordon - but only the Heat seem somewhat interested.
Gordon is a one-trick pony & the Bulls will not hurt their future options by signing him, Gordon can not handle the ball well, he cant pass well & he cant defend well. He's a scorer - and the Bulls need a scorer. However, they can find a replacement if the $59 million is not enough for Ben.

The Heat don't want Wade playing point guard full time. Rose will. That's the difference. If I'm the Heat I'm trying to get Hinrich, not Gordon.

You are right, no one will pay him 70 million. That's asanine for a player like Gordon. And he is a one-trick pony, but he's perfect for the Bulls because he can spot up and shoot and do it pretty damn well and Rose can slash and create and defend. So that's why I think the Bulls will end up paying him in the end, not 70 million, but they'll pay him what other teams won't.
