Gus Ferotte will start for Vikings for rest of the Season

Post#1 » by Nowak008 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:13 pm

Per ESPN news. No real details yet just on the ticker. It didn't say that Jackson is hurt. I know Jackson is pretty bad, but Ferotte? Very surprising.

Yesterday they said that Jackson was gonna get one more start and that they'd chew on other possibilites after that. I'm just glad they weren't able to aquire Pennington. As much as the guy sucks he can at least manage a game and complete 60% of his passes.

Jackson is not hurt, they just finally realized that he sucks. I wish they would have kept Jackson in, that would've kept them towards the bottom of the division. Either way the Vikings still are not going anywhere and Ferotte will not do anything for them.

Absolutely hilarious. Frerotte is more experienced than Jackson, but far less mobile, less arm strength, and just as likely to throw an INT. The Vikings are just rearranging the chairs on the Vikings QB Titanic, while completely shattering Jackson's confidence in the process. In other words, I endorse this move.

Either way, Vikings are in big trouble at QB.

Great franchise.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think he (Childress) is starting to realize that his own job is on the line now and he can't wait for this project to develop if it ever will.

The only suprising thing is that this happened only 2 games into the season. I thought it'd happen around week 7.

To be honest, I saw Jackson going to the bench as inevitable. But, like Fort Minor, I'm surprised at the timing. I didn't think it'd be so soon. But the guy just isn't very good. I've never been impressed with anything he's done outside of scrambling. There's something to be said for that, but only so much.

If they actually had a set of receivers that were game changers then this would be a good move, but not only does Tavaris Jackson stink, but their receivers are not the kidn of receivers that can make a game managing QB like Frerotte look good. The Vikings really look like they are falling apart.

Maybe Frerotte will be able to throw the football to their receivers, which would be a big improvement over Tarvaris Jackson at the position. It's hard to justify letting a guy like Jackson find his way when you've got an insanely good running back, great offensive line and very good defense. If the Vikings had even a decent QB then they'd be a superbowl contender.

It's been the better part of a decade since Frerotte's been a decent QB. Again, Vikes have switched into win never mode.

Playoff contender, yes. Superbowl contender? Nope. These days, you have to be able to pass to win a SB, and the Vikings cannot do it. The Vikes cannot pass and are very, very average at stopping the pass.

Yep

I understand the frustration they have with how Jackson is playing, but Gus Ferotte being anything more than a 1-2 game spot starter can't be viewed as a positive. They are replacing a below average young QB with a below average old QB.

Glad to see it though

So is this the first step on their path to the Super Bowl?

if the vikings lose the next two games, it will mean the season for gus lasted 2 games. While the coach said it was for the entire year, the year gets shortened by losses. I doubt orton, Collins, and griese remain starters if their teams start to lose.
