Lakers Re-Sign Dj Mbenga

Post#1 » by AceFresh » Wed Sep 24, 2008 11:03 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers re-signed center DJ Mbenga on Wednesday morning, extending their preseason roster to 19.

The terms of his contract have yet to be released. As such, it's not clear if his contract is guaranteed or if he has to earn a spot on the final roster.

Mbenga joins Andrew Bynum and Chris Mihm as the team's third center. Power forward Pau Gasol is also expected to also play center throughout the season. Mbenga provides a more defensive-minded option while Mihm continues to work his way back from a devastating ankle injury.

Noob question lol

Yea, 15 broken down in that 12 are active for the game and 3 are inactive through either dressing in street attire or playing in the D-League

Really have to press on Mihm now to get production out of him IMO. Chris and Mbenga fighting it out for mins @ the center after Gasol. C'mon Mitch, make a package w/ Mihm + walton or Vlad for a real SF.

**** no. Chris Mihm is a great center. How do you think he got White Man's Kareem as a nickname? I hate how some of my fellow laker fans seem to forget that right before his injury he was playing like the best center of the league. There is no reason we should trade him. He's a great player who doesn't get the respect that he deserves.

I'm looking forward to seeing if Chris can get back to where he was. If the injury is really cleared up now, I see no reason he can't be a great backup to have onboard. On the other hand anything that would get rid of Vlad and get us a real 3 would be worth including Mihm.

I'm glad we got DJ back too. Taco time defense, Baby.

Even though it won't happen, but I would love to ripoff Mchale and the T'Wolves for Mike Miller, and Collins for Vlad, Luke, and Mihm because he needs to be dealt with for messing with us. Also I hate to say this, but I would use the last active roster spot for Stephen Marbury to fill the PG depth. So the result is this

PG Marbury, D-Fish, Farmar
SG Kobe, Sasha, Karl
SF Miller, Ariza, Yue
PF Gasol, Odom, Powell
C Bynum, Collins, Menga

That why we get finncially better because every players contract is 3 years or less, better talent, and crushes our long time enemy and turns him into a even bigger laughing stock in the league.

If Mihm isn't completely mobile by camp, do the Lakers convince him to retire? At this point, what can Mihm really expect from himself? Should we just buy him out or what? Is it worth wasting roster space?

I don't think anyone is hating on Mihm, its just frustrating to see a solid player like him unable to play month after month, year after year due to lingering ankle problems.

YAY! Taco!

mihm is good player.....its not mihm's fault that the lakers doctors can't properly diagnose an injury.

If Mihm can come back and play the way he did a couple of years ago, that would be huge. Hopefully he's been in the gym working really hard trying to get that explosiveness back.

That would be great news for the bench mob. Do you have a link or anything?

Welcome back, silent M.

I would guess the contract might not be for the full season.

Pre-injury Mihm was really starting to play well. He was our go to choice for scoring early in games, and he delivered every single night. As long as he didn't forget how to rotate a little earlier on defense...

I"m glad we got Mbenga back. We should be Solid with our big guys with him, Powe, Mihm, and Lamar and Pau being able to be utility players and play either the 4/5 respectively when we need it. On a side note. I hope Dwayne Mitchell makes the team over Coby Karl. IMO he's the better player out of Carl, Crawford, CJ Giles from what I've seen.

even if Mihm is healthy, last season when he was in, he was tentative and didn't return to form. I'm hoping a off season regime of workouts, training and pick up games helped his confidence, but at this point 2+ yrs of not seeing any real production I'm ready to move him if we could....
