OT: Simmons' all-star idea

Post#1 » by greenbeans » Fri Sep 26, 2008 12:16 am

New Rule: Playground rules for the NBA All-Star Game. Ever since the idea of having captains pick sides started to circulate, in February, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Let's say Stern names Kobe and LeBron as captains. Right before the game we have a coin flip, and the winner gets first pick. The All-Stars line up, and Kobe and LeBron pick their teams playground-style. Imagine the drama. Who'd get picked first? Would a snubbed player end up wreaking havoc in the game? Would bad blood carry over to the rest of the season? God forbid something fun happened on All-Star Weekend.

He seems to hint that there was actual talk of change this past February. Seems blasphemous as long as Stern is at the helm but count me in as a fan of this.
Most of it is farfetched but some might have merit, ie picking teams on the spot.

I think it would be awesome, but remember this is the same league that invents rules so that stars don't have to do the dunk contest.

I don't like the idea but I wouldn't mind the NBA taking the vote out of the fans' hands and allow head coaches to select the entire roster--excluding picking a player from their own team.

Or if you want to get creative. Why not do as they do when they pick the two head coaches from each conference. The NBA could pick two or three players to start each roster who are on the two teams with the best record. Fill out the remaining starters with players from the second best records from each conference.

The playground idea is awesome, particularly because it's destined to be a catastrophe. Where do I sign?

I hate the fan voting and I really hate the fact that they extended it to MVP voting...AND did the voting before the game concluded! Ray got totally screwed last year, and that was his best chance to ever win AS MVP.

Simmons' idea would be cool, but I don't know if I'd pick Kobe and LeBron to be captains, maybe it should be the captains of the previous years final contenders? So it'd be Kobe and Pierce this year. Who does Kobe have a vendetta against? Who does Pierce really dislike? I know Tinsley would have zero shot of making any AS team for example.

I don't want Kobe as a captain because I want to see the player elected captain to have the balls not to pick him. If I were such captain, I'll pretend like I'm going to pick Kobe and after I call out his name. I show him the DX sign. Of course, this is a segue to an elaborate hoax to ambush Kobe. All NBA players and fans participate in the ultimate beat down. Even Kate Faber make a surprise cameo. Lol. Joking... But, yeah, Simmons' idea stinks.
