I would think it would suck more for another team to force your hand and make you sign a bench player who will push you into the lux tax?

Yeah, if it pushes them into luxury land, it's kinda funny. But if it's not deep into luxury land, it does not really matter; who cares if you pay 2 for 1 on $300,000?

Thanks Charlotte for offering Landry that 3 mil contract. Easy match for us.

Now we finally have a full team!

Coming from the guy who has a "Shut up Hippy" Avatar. Nice of you to consider someone a lowlife human being while your no poster boy for a Saint either. So screw you super **** 97 I thought it was rather hilarious.

That's right, if he doesn't like the bobcats comments he should stop trolling around the bobcats forum, and, it's not like it matters if Landry blows his knee out anyway, we all now that Yao and T-Mac will already be one bench with injuries so he can just hobble in and suit up with them.

Team made an effort, other team matched. Its not like the Bobcats lost out on the all-out answer at PF....it would just be nice if this team would start making these type of moves a little bit earlier on.

Other then Chuck Hayes or Luis Scola (and i'm guessing neither one is available), I really hope the Bobcats don't end up trading for on of their other PFs.

Hey...can you blame these folks from Texas thanking us??

The Bobcats almost get me more p****d off when they do these things than when they sit on their butt during the offseason :onfire: :onfire: :onfire:

Either they really just helped facilitate another handover to a team needing to get something done or they thought their bid was "so clever" they could pull it off. I vote the former. The timing on this, just before camp is to open, means Houston gets their guy in at the start of camp. They had to know the market was going to be set by someone, and we did it. They also had to know that they were headed for luxury tax land this season no matter what, given the players they wanted to sign.

Many here say we would have overpaid if we'd gone to 4M per year. I disagree. Would you rather have Landry next season at $4M or Sean May at the same price (or higher) if re-signed??

I get so weary of this struggle. Now our only option is to trade for someone, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. I'd still love Channing Frye, but his toe injury will keep him out of play for a while longer. Hopefully his toe will heal, others in Portland will step up and his minutes will be minimal, and we can get him for a decent deal.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

While I certainly would've like to have had Landry, there are some things to think about in terms of the "overpaying" debate. We have all discussed the positive, which are many, so let's look at some of the negatives.
He only played in 46 games last year and only averaged ~17mins a game.
He does have a history of knee problems.
He's a little undersized, but that might be a little picky.

I have to believe that management was looking at his limited playing time and injury history and saw a lot of upside, but a potential PR mess. If they gave a 3yr 4.5mm a year guaranteed contract to an unproven PF with an injury history, and he did in fact get hurt, they'd get roasted.

They have now officially stated that they need to do something at the PF spot (which is WAY overdue) and that May can't be trusted to stay healthy. I feel they tried to address the issue aggressively, but not too aggressively given Landry's history.

Like I said, I would've loved to have had him, but I do think management played this the right way. The big problem is that it took them til right before training camp to admit there is a problem.

Sidenote: thanks for the support guys. I obviously don't wish harm on anyone. A little venting should be construed as just that, venting.

I don't think losing out on Landry is going to end up being that big a deal. If anything, doing this sort of thing gets us in good standing with players, agents, and other GM's around the league. This way when there comes an opportunity for an UFA, Charlotte will be on the list. We've also taken care of our own players so far and all of this builds up a team with no reputation or even a cheap reputation to a team willing to do business.

I've got no problem with this or the Varejo situation. Sure it'd be nice to get them both, but this can be looked at as more of a long term investment.
