Were Good!@ the 2
We all have been trying to figure out who will start at the 2,but it has been clear cut the whole time.
Many on these boards and RCF want Wally traded, but it will be hard to trade him, because he controls his own destiny.
Wally will beat out Delonte and Sasha has no chance, he is clearly LeBron's backup....
d-west is to short to guard j-rich v.c. iggy redd rip jj-atl.
Am I the only one that was blown away by the defense wally played on ray allen, because from what I know allen is quick and always moving and cutting, but wally shut him down and he did a good job on butler too.
Wally is proven, strong, clutch, and won't back down from nothing, and he can shoot the lights out,he will average 15 ppg. this season along with Z, combine that with LBJ 30 ppg. and Mo 20 ppg.
We don't need Vince chucking shots and being injured all season for the next 4 years.
The only person you move Wally for at the deadline is Mike Miller and mabey AK47.

There is virtually no chance that LeBron will score 30 a game if Williams is putting up 20 and Wally is scoring 15

Re: Were Good!@ the 2
Wally did ok on D vs Ray Ray but having West as the other guard is WAY different then having Mo. I think you are overrating Wallys D anyway. It was one series and Ray was in a slump for most of the playoffs. Sasha played good D for an entire season granted it was not last season, but IMO he is clearly the better defencive player. Wally has NO knees left its worse than VC, and you could see that on his shots last year....Brick. IMO the only reason he sould get any pt is to raise his trade value....other than that I dont whan to see his cripple a$$ on the court.

Wally is fine as far as right now.. But we have to give him some time preferably until the deadline, to see if he is capable of being a starter for us, before we decide what to do with him.

Re: Were Good!@ the 2
I hate when people say that Ray was in a slump. Ray wasn't in a slump. He wasn't in a slump before the series and he wasn't in one afterward. Fact is the Cavs played good defense in him. Every shot he took was contested. I bet he couldn't sleep during the series because all he saw was Cavs jumping at him. Now that might be because the Cavs took him away by daring Rondo to beat them and using Delonte to halp all over the floor. But that's not nearly as simplistic as saying he was in a slump. That was good defense. Now that being said, I don't really give Wally the credit for that, but his defense was not too bad as long as he's against a player that's not really going to drive the ball.

Re: Were Good!@ the 2
If Ray was in a slump or not is debatable but you are correct Cleveland played very good team defence. Like I said he had West a very good defencive player backing him up, not Mo a bad defencive player backing him up. Ray is also the type of player that he could guard
The problem is there are more slashing sg's then spot up shooting sg's, so Wally would be stuck guarding more slashers....Not good for the Cavs.

Re: Were Good!@ the 2
I hate giving Wally any credit, but his defense in the playoffs was actually a very pleasant surprise. Not only did he do very well on Ray (with help from Delonte slacking off of Rondo), but he also did quite well against Butler in the series before (with help from everyone behind him). The beauty of what Wally did is that on our team you dont have to be a standout defender to be able to play standout defense. All you have to do is to know where you can allow the guy you are guarding to go, and where you cant allow him to go. You dont have to take everything away, but you do need to give them what you want to give them.
Thats another reason why I think MoWill's D will be completely fine, well that and the fact that I think he is actually a good defensive player who got stuck on the worst defensive team in the league. Its hard for anyone to care to play D on a terrible team. Before he got to the Bucks his defense was actually one of his strengths. I see no reason why he shouldnt do fine in Coach Brown's system defensively.
Oh and as for this topic...

I still think Pavlovic could very well be our best option at the 2. Last year he was terrible, there is no arguing that, but 2 years ago he was great, and there's no arguing that either. If we're willing to excuse Varejao's lackluster season last year due to his holdout, then why doesnt Pavs get the same excuse? To me he was clearly the biggest dissapointment on the team last season, as I thought he was going to step up and be that athletic, defensive, shooter at the 2 we needed. Unfortunately he failed... but I still think he has that capability. Regardless of if you agree or disagree, imagine how great it would be if Pavs could step up and return to 2007 version and claim the starting spot while playing lock down defense, being able to get to the hoop, and being an outside threat. Wally would instantly become expendable and our team would be ridiculously deep. Ahh its nice to dream. To me though, the one guy who I am pulling for the hardest in this training camp is Sasha, because if he "gets it" and returns to 2007 form then look out league.

I also think that we need Sasha to get back to 2006 level. Ideally, we'd have Sasha coming off the bench along with Delonte and Gibson. We haven't had that much scoring off the bench in years. It's hard to understand how terrible Sasha was last year when he was actually quite good the year before.

Just so you know over the last 4 years Vince Carter has missed a total of 14 games, Lebron James has missed a total of 16 games... Also I wouldn't really call Vince a chucker if anything he doesn't chuck enough (**** FGA per game were down by something like 3 a game last year), he let RJ dominate the offense last year and that was part of the reason the Nets sucked (RJ was pretty efficient at scoring but his defense flat out sucked last year thanks to his increased offensive role).

Injuries are always a concern with Sasha.. One season he is decent, the next he is in a slump. So, I do believe Sasha can return to his old form but only time can tell.

Re: Were Good!@ the 2
I don't think the Organization has given up on Sasha but this is absolutely his last chance.
Actually I really like the rotation available at the 2 guard. Sasha, Wally, Tarence, Boobie, and Delonte will all have a chance to get minutes. Of course Boobie/Delonte will also get minutes at PG and one of Sasha/Wally will back up Lebron at SF. LeBron and Mo will supply enough scoring so that Brown will start an active defender at the 2.. My guess is Gibson/West come off the bench together and Sasha could be given the first shot to start at the 2 with a very short leash. Watch out for Kinsey..I think he could be the guy who ultimately wins the job by the end of the season if Sasha doesn't get his act together.
No offense to Wally, he could be a starter on opening day...but assuming Mo starts at PG I think Brown will eventually want a more athletic, perimeter defender to start at the 2.

Everybody seems to play better defense when they come to the Cavs but get worse offensively.

Wally is gone. His trade value >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than his on court production.
Teams will be all over his large expiring deal at the deadline. Especially teams over the luxury tax who aren't in playoff contention.

Maybe Vince isn't a winner but LeBron is. He can play off-the ball, he can play defense. As a 2nd option he won't feel the pressure which is leading him to failure. He would be a great fit but his contract is too long. We gotta give a shot to Wally and Pavs first and I think our priority should be on PF.

Agreed. I would love Vince but with everything else he is an option later down the road. Let's see Wally and Pavs 1st. If Pavs can get to 2007 form or Wally playing in a defensive system may be the difference. If not, lets look at Mike Miller or Stephen Jackson. Matrell Webster or JR Smith again. A PF. Then Vince Carter.

Re: Were Good!@ the 2
I like the fact that there is so much competition for minutes. Wally was largely in a funk his entire tenure in Cleveland, but he offers a lot if he gets it going. Williams brings that second banana offense the team sorely needs. Boobie brings his skillset and can also swing to the backup PG spot. And I still hold out the hope that Sasha can regain his 2006 form.
All those guys essentially battling for minutes, and knowing that Coach Brown values defense 1st and 2nd and then offense 3rd, that makes for intense competition. That had better bring out the best in at least one of them. This team will be stronger because of it.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game
