OT: Rip Hamilton 'dirty' player?

Post#1 » by pballa » Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:03 am

just wanted to get your thoughts on:

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-3 ... erees.html

Just a personal observation: For whatever reason, Rip Hamilton showed up in several of these videos. And time and again, what he did looked clean at game speed. But in slow motion, just about every time he was involved, he was actually committing a foul.

Not saying this means he is dirty but just a curious observation by the blogger (I don't really read his blog as much as I do BDL)

Interesting I never really noticed it, did any of you?

I'll probably keep an eye out for it next year, but I always thought rip as solid on both O and D and never really someone that committed fouls on the time.

how about you all?

My memory is of him raping Ray Allen in the ECF. Scratching him with his fingernails and ****. I guess whatever you can get away with go for it. If they called him by the books he'd probably be out of the league or on the end of a bench somewhere.

I always thought that he got away with a lot of hand action when guarding Ray Allen, but none of that really matters since we wiped the floor with them. I think that he can only be dirty if he kicks Wally in the head...among other things :D

After seeing that BOS-DET series I definitely agree. For me he is the dirtiest player in the NBA! He was pushing, grabbing, hitting, flopping, pulling...it was unbelievable and frustrating to watch!

You never really noticed? LMAO. Rip fouls guys nearly every single play. It's not dirty in the football sense - in that he is not trying to hurt people. But it's dirty as far as basketball goes - as he tries to work the refs and skirt the rules more then any player in the NBA except for maybe Bruce Bowen.

LMAO, my lasting memory of Celts/Pistons is Rip lying on the floor, flopping, after he fouled Ray, for the millionth time.

I' always liked his game, but it looked like he played dirty on both ends of the floor and wasn't the star that I remember.

very dirty player. Ray started to wear a sleeve i think in game 5 because he was sick of Rip tearing up his arm. Hell the play where Hamilton supposedly injured his arm he had his hands wrapped around Rays neck.

I can't stand Rip. Remember when Ray laid him out with an elbow during the regular season? Try to watch that game again and watch how Rip tries to slow down Ray, especially when he's coming around screens. He's literally poking Ray in the ribs with his fingers. It's not just a soft poke either. He's literally trying to dig his fingers into Ray's body, and that kinda hurts if you get poked. Give it a try. Poke yourself in your side. Ouch.

Yeah, without a doubt Rip plays dirty. Practically every time up the floor he starts a cut by pushing off of his defender to create space for himself, and his defensive transgressions have already been mentioned. Considering he gets away with so much though, I really can't blame him, he gets paid millions to produce, if he can get away with his tactics in the plain sight of the refs why the hell wouldn't he? It's not nearly as dirty as taking 'roids or gambling on his own games or something IMO, but it is frustrating to watch as an apposing fan. If he was a Celtic in his prime we'd all love him though.

He's a very dirty player. He digs and claws and shoves his way around the court. He also throws elbows around a lot, he took a shot at KG's head in the playoffs but missed. On the play in Game 5, where he was supposedly injured the replays showed he was strangling Ray Allen with two hands.

One of the dirtier players in the league. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I don't know why I didn't think of that. I was really thinking about putting down Isiah Thomas at pg.

Reggie Miller was awful as well, maybe he comes off the bench behind Hamilton or doesn't count because of retiring. When I think of a dirty point guards in the league right now I think Billups, A.I, and then maybe Sam Cassell. These guys aren't as bad as Hamilton and Miller and what they do is usually considered crafty, but a lot of the time it's outside the rules. They'll get elbows into people off from screens, tug and shove defenders into oncoming players (creating their own screens), and in the case of A.I and Billups fake injuries for FTs.

the refs have allowed the game to sink to this low level of ethics on the court. the players burning desire to win clouds their ethical judgement. they shouldnt be the ones held for the blame. But, it's been going on for decades, this type of bs basketball. You know, jumping in the lane at the last second to take a charge. A theatrical flop. etc, etc. Blame it on the generations of refs that let it get to this point. with that said, I love Rip and wish he was a celtic.

all time reggie evans? :-?
what are you smoking?

Guess you haven't watched a whole lot of basketball. Remove evans from there and throw in Karl Malone.
