http://www.ocregister.com/articles/walt ... right-want

someone started a thread on here about it too

Walton expects to get medical clearance Wednesday from the doctor, giving him the go-ahead to begin more rigorous workouts. He ran Tuesday on a wind-bubble treadmill that reduces body weight on joints, the first time he has tested his ankle since having surgery less than two months ago.

"I'm keeping my fingers crossed and if I get it (clearance), I'm going to start pushing it as hard as I can," he said.

Walton had surgery July 18 to remove bone spurs and scar tissue, as well as clean up cartilage debris from his right ankle, which had bothered him toward the end of last season.

He said Tuesday that he wants to be ready to go when training camp opens Sept. 30. Whether his ankle is ready is another matter.

"Right now, it's pretty weak. I do exercises right now and my whole right leg is shaking," Walton said. "And that's a light warm-up exercise.

"It's frustrating because I'm so excited about this season coming up – excited about the team, about the opportunities we have. I want to be there. Today in the gym, the guys were playing 5-on-5 … that's the stuff I want to be doing, but I'm not able yet.

no word on being cleared to play.

i'd do this deal in a sec. Luke sucks and has a long contract. just dump him. we already have Vlad, Ariza, Odom, and Kobe at SF.

The fact that his leg is so weak that its shaking during light workouts is kinda scary to me... Hopefully he gets cleared

There has to be a way to get David Lee. I'd even give up Farmar, who is a better fit for D'Antoni than he is for Phil. Apparently, D'Antoni isn't too high on Lee. Swap?

Lee would be the perfect utility player for our front court. We

I'd do it, but only if it's a three way, where we get a solid backup point in return for, let's say, Radmanovic or Walton.

Anyone trade savvy here that can put together a decent trade?

Is Crawford pretty much done, or can he still play? We could always try to get Lee and Crawford for Farmar and Radmanovic and cash considerations, maybe? Damn you, Isiah. Where are you when we need you? Thoughts?

I wouldn't even think about doing this unless we can sure up our back court with a solid replacement for Farmar.

NY in: PG Raymond Felton, F Vlad Radmanovic
NY out: PF David Lee, F Malik Rose
Both players could thrive in D'Ant system

CHA in: F Lamar Odom, PG Jordan Farmar
CHA out: SF Gerald Wallace, PG Raymond Felton
Odom for Wallace is a money move, roster balancer and gives Okafor a big on the front line to work with, Farmar may become better than Felton and cheaper. This could be a playoff making move.

LA in: PF David Lee, SF Gerald Wallace, F Malik Rose's expiring
LA out: F Lamar Odom, PG Jordan Farmar
The usual reasons with the usual money/cap issues. Rose can be cut or become a coach or a scout or who knows, he just makes the $ work. Or shift Rose to MIL for Luke Ridnour get the PG depth up. Saves MIL a year of paying Ridnour since they have Sessions, Lue, Bell, Damon Jones to pay. Or there's always Eric Snow.

What do you guys think about this trade: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/t ... &te=&cash=

Incoming Players:
Tayshaun Prince
Salary: $9,500,000 Years Remaining: 3

Antonio McDyess
Salary: $6,813,050 Years Remaining: 2

Arron Afflalo
Salary: $1,015,440 Years Remaining: 2

Outgoing Players:
Jordan Farmar
Salary: $1,080,000 Years Remaining: 1

Lamar Odom
Salary: $14,148,596 Years Remaining: 1

Lineup:
PG: Afflalo/Fisher (even though Afflalo is a 2 he can play a 1 in the triangle IMO and he's a good defender)
SG: Kobe/Sasha
SF: Prince/Ariza/Vlad/anyone
PF: Gasol/McDyess/Powell
C: Bynum/Mihm/McDyess

Thoughts?

Well, as we already have too many forwards and not enough PGs, I see it hard to give up Farmar for Afflalo, who is really not a PG. Our small forward depth should be reduced, and our point guard depth needs to be increased, not the other way around.

I think the idea should be to get rid of Radmanovic for a veteran backup point guard. What team, lacking an outside shooter, also wants to get rid of a veteran PG contract and has a young guard ready to go? If offering Farmar gives us a shot at a starting caliber PG, we should do it. If we have to take on a semi bad contract to get rid of Radman, we should still try to do it, I think.

Ultimate high score would be to trade Radman for a veteran backup PG straight up while keeping Farmar. I'd seriously entertain a sign and trade for Livingston, but I wouldn't give up Farmar if Shaun is the guy we're getting. Not until he's proven to be in game shape.

The guys I want can't be had for Radman alone. Who lacks a shooter?

Trade Idea:

Lakers get:
Shane Battier
Steve Francis
Karl Landry (sign and trade)

Rockets get:
Lamar Odom

The key here is: Karl Landry
His contract situation is uncertain with Rockets. They are low balling the guy. We could give him a 3 year deal worth 20 million dollars. Only the first year would be guarenteed. Meaning for him, he would get 6 million dollars to play for us this year. That is about doulble what Houston is offering him this year. We would have the flexibility to not pick up the option on him after this season, so we could focus on Bynum. The thing is, we probably could afford to bring him back as our back up power forward, because we could let Mihm and Ariza Walk (5 million) and we would still have Battier, Vlade and Walton at small forward. Houston gets a line-up of:

PF-Odom (36) Scola (12)
SF-Artest (36) back up sf (12)
C-Yao (36) Scola (12)
PG-Alston (36) Head (12)
SG-McGrady (36) back up SG (12)

We get:

PF-Gasol (20) Landry (18) Vlade (10)
SF-Battier (36) Kobe (12)
C-Bynum (34) Gasol (14)
PG-Fisher (24) Farmar (24)
SG-Kobe (24) Sasha (24)

I don't think the Rockets would deal with us, though they might like Odom and Ron would certainly want that to happen. I would love Shane on our team, though.

I doubt that the Rockets would give up that depth given the injury history of T-Mac and Yao. They need those players as insurance.

I'm still thinking there must be a lower profile deal to be made for Radman. Something along the lines of Tyronne Lue and Serviceable Big X in return. Charile "Powder" Villanueva would make the deal sweet for us but I don't see them liking such a deal very much. Besides, Lue can't be traded until Dec 15th.

We need a defensive stopper PG a la Lue or Hunter. I'd happily give up Radmanovic to get one. Otherwise, I don't see us stopping the Celtics from winning it all next season again.

What team has such a PG on the pine and also needs a legit three point sniper?

The way I see it, we have the current depth at SF (including utility players for spot minutes):
Kobe, Odom, Ariza, Radmanovic, Luke, Karl, Yue, Sasha.

At PG, we have Fisher, Farmar, Crawford (who claims he's really a playmaker), and Yue (unproven, won't last for 82 games plus playoffs). We desperately need a PG-stopper bulldog off the bench, in my opinion. Radman is an asset we can afford to trade without much of a set-back.

Do it, Mitch!

This is why I've wanted players like Ryan Gomes or Shane Battier and Lindsey Hunter or Tyronne Lue in the past recent years.

We're simply not tough enough defensively as is. The more I think about it, Radmanovic must be traded. Either for a tough big man role player or a tough PG role player. Preferably both. There must be a Radman deal to strike to accomplish that. Get us some bulldogs to bring off the bench. At least one. Ship the space cadet out. The experiment is over. Yes, he is a potent scorer but that didn't help us much against Pierce, did it?

Agree about the other players, but I'm not really impressed by Lue's defensive abilities once you look past that one game he had against Iverson.

IMO our PGs we already have are equal or better defensively than Lue is, but I do agree we need some grit off the bench at PG.

Ty Lue could be useful as an insurance policy.

The good news is that I think that MIN could be talked into trading Ryan Gomes. His tough-nosed style and posie has made him a favorite of both the front office and the fans, but I don't like his long-term future on the Wolves. He's a SF/PF, but the Wolves have Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, and Craig Smith to all play PF, and at SF Mike Miller, Corey Brewer (if he ever packs some weight on his 6' 9" frame) and maybe they want to take a look at Rodney Carney. I think the Wolves signed Gomes to play (probably start) in the beginning of the season., and because his 2-year contract was too good to say "no."

2008-09 $3,650,000
2009-10 $4,017,500
2010-11 $4,385,000 (team option)
2011-12 $4,752,500 (team option)
2012-13 $5,120,000 (player option)

The bad news is that I think there is no way in the world MIN would consider Radmanovic. His style doesn't fit, and his contract definitely doesn't work for the Wolves, who have been the most active team in the league over the last year to reduce salary.

I think Gomes can be acquired (after December 15th, since he was a FA), but it would take a different package.

Good post. Thanks for all the info!

What sort of package do you think could interest them?

Ryan Gomes is a player I like a lot, so if the Wolves would be interested in dealing him that's certainly something the Lakers should look at imo. No idea what the Wolves would want for him though.
