Deron Williams: 5th best player in the NBA?

Post#1 » by ballerblogger » Sat Sep 27, 2008 8:18 pm

From CBSSports.com:

1. Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers: It's a tough call taking Bryant ahead of LeBron, but Kobe gets the nod because he's more skilled than James and because he has had more professional success.

2. LeBron James, Cleveland: James remains the future of the league, but he still needs work on his 3-point and free throw shooting. Yes, we're nit-picking, but that's what you do with the greats.

3. Chris Paul, New Orleans: Paul had every right to garner MVP votes last year. You could make the case that Paul is every bit as important to his team as anyone on this list.

4. Tim Duncan, San Antonio: Duncan is barely holding on to this spot. He's on the downside of his career, his team seems to be at a crossroads and he can't play the minutes he used to. We'll still take him on our team anytime.

5. Deron Williams, Utah: No doubt, many will think this is too high for Williams. As great as Paul is, we're still not giving him the long-term nod over Williams. Not yet anyway.

If Wade comes back he belongs up there, but otherwise I feel it's right. Paul's overrated still.

I would, right now, take KG over Duncan, but I guess that may just be me. I think Duncan is really starting to show his age and won't be near as effective this season as he has been in season's past.

i wouldnt put him in top 5 yet. 4 above him (though Paul not better for Jazz) and KG, Howard and Wade if he comes back.

You think are like the idiots of the media that rank Ohio St. #14. Everyone knows they arent that good. They barely beat Ohio. They got WHOMPED by USC...who, by the way, proved to be a fraud....lol. No way DWill is not top 5.

good god, what is with jazz fans obsession with OSU? just because OSU lost to a team that is the most talented on player-by-player basis doesnt mean they are not a top 10 team. and season is young you ll see lot of contenders that is going to be proved by your definition "fraud". CFB changed a lot since your grandfathers time, you ll have a hard time finding a unbeaten team at the end of the season, especially in a BCS conference. just watch this weeks games.

as for the topic, imo, being considered top 10 player and second best player in his position at worst is not too shabby for a guy who is entering his 4th season. go drink some pepto-bismol, scratch your balls and calm down.

Bahahahaha. Nice try. Yes, Florida was a fraud too. They lost to an SEC foe that never challenges the conference. Georgia too. They proved they weren't ready yet to carry the torch of the unbeaten. Is Alabama? We shall see. But I know two MWC bitter-rivals who are also in the National Championship discussion...Utah and BYU. If both are unbeaten when they meet Nov 22. there is a GREAT chance the winner of that game will be headed the the BCS Championship Game.

How do you like THEM apples?!

i ll give you BYU but you are going to have a hard time convincing anybody outside of state of Utah that any team that gives off 21 points to Weber St is a contender.

That means nothing. It was a little lifetime acheivement award show for former Ute and current Weber St coach McBride. And Utah was already looking ahead to Oregon St, wanting to capitalize on taking out a team that just took out #1...
