First ESPN power ranking for the year:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/powerrank ... 09&week=-1

9 Jazz 54-28 Is this the last season for Utah's Olympic tag team to be together? With Boozer headed for free agency in the summer, that's the question D-Will and the rest of this Jazz will hear all year, no matter how good they are.

When does media day start? I've been waiting for a picture, an interview, anything. I'm like a junkie who spilt his coke on his new carpet, vacuumed, and is now inhaling huge amounts of dead skin and pubic hair to catch a buzz.

I'll sell you some pictures and an interview for $35 dollars, no questions asked.

Harping wont be going to training camp, Johnson off to Europe

The Utah Jazz officially met for the first time this season Monday at their training facility where they posed for pictures and participated in media day interviews.

Not all of the Jazz players previously listed on the team's fall camp roster will be headed to Boise, Idaho, for training Tuesday, however.

Veteran swingman Matt Harpring revealed that he is still recuperating from a staff infection that spread in his right ankle after he underwent a surgery to remove bone spurs this summer.

Instead of joining the Jazz for practices at Taco Bell Arena from Tuesday through Friday, Harpring will head to Santa Barbara to continue rehabbing and work on improving his strength and conditioning.

Harpring said he was basically inactive for four weeks in July while dealing with the painful infection. He hopes to be back to full strength by the regular season, but the complication set him back.

Britton Johnsen will also not travel with the Jazz in Idaho.

The small forward, a former standout for Utah and Murray High, signed a professional contract to play in the Ukraine, so he'll return to Europe instead of giving the NBA another shot for now.

Gabe Muoneke, a 6-7 forward from Texas, replaced Johnsen on the training camp roster.

Brewer gets 4th yr option picked up

Although they had until Oct. 31 to do so, the Jazz have exercised the fourth-year option in guard Ronnie Brewer's contract, general manager Kevin O'Connor said Monday at the team's annual media day.
"We'll do it now and kind of make him feel like he understands that the work he did this summer is rewarded," O'Connor said, "and the work he did last summer and last year is rewarded."
Brewer took over as the Jazz's starting shooting guard last season and went on to average 12.0 points and 2.9 rebounds. He gained an additional 10 to 12 pounds from last season and weighed in Monday at 235 pounds.
"It's good that he has confidence in me and that this organization has confidence in me," Brewer said. "But that doesn't really do anything, what you did last year. It's all about now, so I'm looking forward to this year."
The Jazz will wait a little longer to decide about exercising the third-year option in guard Morris Almond's rookie contract. Almond played in only nine games as a rookie and spent the bulk of the season in the NBA Development League.
Already under contract this season, Brewer will make $2.7 million in the 2009-10 season. As a third-year player, the Jazz will have the opportunity starting July 1 to sign Brewer to a contract extension, much as they did with Deron Williams this summer.

The Jazz will practice at Boise State from Tuesday through Friday before returning to Salt Lake City. They will hold an open practice Thursday at 6 p.m. in Boise and an open scrimmage Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at EnergySolutions Arena.

Wow... Brew is 235. I bet he starts playing more 3.

Also, 18-1 for this team is a nice bet.

Welcome back everyone! It was a shorter summer than usual with the Olympic tourny and everything, but I'm rearing and ready to go for this year.

Very pumped to see the improvements that Brewer, CJ and Almond have made to their games.

Excited to see if Deron can keep pushing his game to new heights.

Or to see if Koufos can give us anything at all this season.

Have to say, though, I'm afraid to see Fes and the "progress" he's made. The dude is on his way out, imo.

But I will take that 18-1 any day. Vegas is simply a measure of what people think, and its no surprise that people are overlooking the boys from that white Mormon town yet again. I have some very high hopes for this year.

235lbs. Wow. He's definitely SF size now. I wonder if that's just writing on the wall for AK being traded?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

This is great, gives us a chance to do more combinations, potentially more minutes for miles too. This really works out it in the long run, when Harpring is gone, and get his 18mpg (based off his 2007-08 numbers). That's basically half a quarter for Miles, Brewer and Korver. AK gets 31 minutes a game, I doubt they would play him much more with history of injuries, especially with all the help.
