Guess who wanted to be traded
Yesterday at media day Cuban said several players requested trades citing Avery as coach as one of the reasons (i.e. that is why Avery got canned - Cuban had to choose player trades vs. coach) {according to Cuban} He said more than 5 players but "close" to 7 so 6-8 is a safe guestimate.
my list:
Ager
Hassell
Josh
Jones
Kidd
Stack
maybe Devin?
(no indication was given if it was pre or post Kidd trade)
I'd guess not Bass as he was getting PT
not Devean since his contract was expiring anyhow
not Malik or Wright as they were FAs too
JJB? Damp?
can't see a reason for JET or Dirk to have requested a trade

not?
I can see a reason for every player who cares about winning.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
It wouldnt surprise me if Dirk had requested a trade at some point. If I were Kidd or Devin, I would have wanted out of Avery's system too. I cant really think of who the other few players were though. Josh might be one of them, even though he was suited well for Avery's system.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
Its strictly just an opinion, but mine is that he is very likely exaggerating the trade-me requests.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there was maybe only 1, possibly 2 players that requested a trade (if any). And even for those, I am skeptical that the reason actually was Avery and not some other issue.
Who knows though? I just see it as a PR move (and a good, logical one). When asked why there have been no relatively significant moves made in the off-season otherwise - claiming that trade demands were a barometer for the "real" problem with the team (being the coach) - it would make sense from a PR standpoint to portray it as the only significant change needed.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
Well, we already know for a fact that Deveon George was one of them and then he backed out of his request.
I'm willing to bet my house that Harris and Howard were on that list.
Ones NOT on that list would have to include all of those we got near the trade deadline like Allen, Wright, Lue, Magloire, etc.
Also NOT on the list would be Stack who wanted to come back if traded, Diop who was mad that he got traded and Barea who saw more playing time with Avery.
Leaving:
Terry: who may have because we went to 6th man
Dampier: He doesn't care anywys...who knows
Hassel: flip a coin
Fazekas: two inexperienced to give a damn yet.
Juwan: Flip a coin
Mbenga: Possibly
I don't even remember who the other 4 where.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
I am betting it was an exaggeration. Maybe 6 games asked for trades at some time, but I doubt it was all because of Avery.
My list:
Dirk (he was the first to start breaking plays)
Howard (most likely)
George (PT issue)
Juwan (PT issue)
Hassel (PT issue)
Juwan (PT issue)

George (PT issue)

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
here is what it said on an espn scroll:
Mavs owner Mark Cuban says at least 5 players asked to be traded if Coach Avery Johnson returned for this season. Cuban: "We didn't have a choice...I didn't want to fire him. That wasn't my goal
this leads me to believe players mentioned this at the end of the year, not during the season, thus the speculation of Hassel, Mbenga, FAz, etc doesnt work. Besides, who are they to make a trade request that would matter to Cuban.
I'm sure Kidd, JHO were among the first two to say it. Dirk possibly but doubtful. He prolly hinted to Cuban that he'd be very upset with him coming back. Wright prolly didnt want to be here, considering he never played. Terry possibly. I'd be surprised if Damp said that. I think Stack would respect Avery but is enough of a veteran to realize that him beign the coach here was doing to the team adn didnt want to be a part of it and all the internal turmoil next year if Avery were coming back.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
I think it's a big chance that Harris is in it. After being traded to New Jersey he already boasted around saying about the controlled system of Avery's and what not. And I guess Josh wanted to be traded top along with his buddy, he didn't get traded in the end therefore was throwing kind of a tantrum by playing bad and all those crap that he did. But I think now he's able to move on and play some real mavericks basketball

Well reportedly, Harris cried after being told he was traded, so I seriously doubt he was one of them.

Cried? Really? That has been the most intriguing/interesting thing i've heard this offseason if it's true.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
Clip Fan here but I read some of you threw out Josh Howard as a guy who wanted Avery gone. May be wrong but I thought they were the Kobe and Phil of the Mavericks. From outside view seems like Avery wanted Josh to be the star more than Dirk, did they have bad blood because I thought that Josh would want to be traded since Avery is no longer there.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
You could visually see as a fan that Howard tuned Avery out mid way through the season. He is the only one I could visually see that from. All others are news reports or total guesses.
My guess is Howard returns to all-star form (may not be an all-sar player, but back to that form) with Avery gone.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
Darren's analysis:
Who wanted to be traded?
Josh Howard - his playoff performance tells us everything
Desagana Diop - he didn't get fair treatment by Avery
Devin Harris - same as above
Devean George - he hates the fact that he's offered to NJN
Maurice Ager - he didn't get playing time under AJ
Didier M'Benga - he didn't get fair treatment by Avery
Antoine Wright - he didn't get playing time under AJ, despite flash of talent
Who might wanted to be traded?
Dirk Nowitzki - he repeatedly said his main goal is competing for champ 'if he's back in Dallas'.
Jason Kidd - he takes much blames for Avery's fault. It takes away his greatness from fans.
Trenton Hassell - he didn't get much playing time under Avery.
Nick Fazekas - he didn't get playing time, despite solid performance in D-league.
The Kiddirk may be the strongest among the group (besides Josh Howard of course). That's why Mark Cuban can make the decision so easily. And both of them blame Avery's dictatorship recently. Another wasted year is an inconvenient truth to Dirk and Jason.
Who didn't want to be traded?
Jason Terry - based on his playoff performance and the 'unlikeliness' of the love of combo guard
Brandon Bass - with his passion in the game. It's very unlikely.
Jerry Stackhouse - based on the fact that he's not loved by other teams.
Erick Dampier - coz he just wanted money. He didn't have any problem with coaches or players.
Jose Juan Barea - he's Avery guy, you know.
Eddie Jones - it didn't matter to him.
Malik Allen - he's another Avery guy.
Juwan Howard - he's no more than at-the-end-of-the-bench type of player anywhere.

Re: Guess who wanted to be traded
The players that asked for Averys head were IMO
- young benchwarmers (Wright, Ager (I even remember Ager starting a few games, he blew it.)),
- veteran players (Jones and Hassell(no trust and PT)),
- Kidd (Avery is psycho),
- and without trade demand: Dirk and Terry (Averys gameplan exposed), Stackhouse (because Avery's offense schemas allowed no easy points)
