Interesting read on LB's thoughts on our roster. He fully recognizes the things we're lacking. That also tells me Morrison or Wallace are gone. He doesn't think we have a 3 who can guard which is a must for this guy. I bet Dudley gets all kinds of burn if he plays hard like he did last year.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

yea does look like he is not happy with the man on man defense at small.....i really think LB can work with wallace i would wait and see if he gets better this season before i toss him alway

He's got Wallace and he's got Dudley. Those are his two SFs that can guard. They have the tools to be good man-to-man defenders, so it's up to the great Larry Brown to "teach" them how to guard the way he wants.

I'm actually a little scared that LB will demand Crash play defense "the right way," i.e. stay at home.

Crash likes to "roam" a bit for steals and blocks and he is good at it. He knows when to take a risk. LB might end that and cost us a couple of breakaway dunks a game.

Which brings to mind the question:

Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?

Or, in Bobcats-speak, does he help the team more locking down on his man, or roaming for that steal, which leads to maybe two more highlight reel dunks per game? He has done it his way for four years. Does he change WILLINGLY?

Depends. Does the team REALLY want to go on playing after April 15th? The answer may lie in his attitude toward this very thing.

I think that Crash does his best when he is allowed to roam, pick off passes in the lane and make his weak side blocks.

But for the team to be at it's best he needs to be lock down.

The 100% best result would be for Swish to be lock down to allow Crash to roam a little. The problem with Crash roaming as we currently are is that it leaves us too open when he is out of position. Last thing we need is EO50 getting into foul trouble because people have a free run at him and he is trying to block shots.

Of course, if Swish is playing a lock down role on D, you have to wonder how much gas he'd have left in the tank to pour in the points at the other end.

I think G-Wall actually should play more disciplined defense, he definitely has the tools for more of that, to be damn good. It would also benefit the team more, and himself as a defensiver player. Becoming more well-rounded and consistent.

Besides that, you can't rely too much on getting steals and blocks to truly be a good team (Denver Nuggets, for example), or a quality defensive player. Now the former isn't really there for this team yet, but it's all about getting better.

I think what there needs to be for Gerald is more of a balance between the deflections, and staying solid and contesting, denying, and rotating.

I think that's part of why Brown was brought to the team, and part of what he's going to implement. Consequently improving as a whole offensively will also only benefit the defensive side of the floor (assuming that's improved as well).

I think Gerald has to be the defensive enforcer on the wing, along with bringing his general versatility, while Richardson does more of the scoring.

Just because Gerald is super athletic and skilled with the steals and blocks doesn't mean that's what he has to do mainly as a defender - because that's not what defense is mainly about, or what defense ultimately comes down to, typically.

Entertainment-wise, I love watching good/smart/tough/disciplined defense man to man, team, as much as significant blocks. Sometimes even more because the former can mean a lot more than a blocked shot.
