B.Wells already re-sign ?

Post#1 » by zhengzheng1989 » Sun Sep 7, 2008 12:31 am

Bonzi has yet to re-sign

The Bad:
New Orleans acquired Mike James in a midseason trade that also brought in Bonzi Wells to help bolster the bench. Bonzi has yet to re-sign, but James will collect just over $6 million each of the next two years even though he hardly plays.

We signed Posey and Devin Brown, and Bonzi was pretty disappointing.

Hoopsworld recently did an article on Bonzi. I don't think he'll be returning as a Hornet. He didn't show up in the playoffs like I thought/hoped he would.

Bonzi not getting enough touches, enough minutes (of course directly relating to the former), not having his jumpshot on (semi-reliable shot, average at best), and Udoka-Spurs bigs-defense were the main causes for his Spurs series disappointment (G1 was good, but was a non-factor afterwards).

I remember him playing significantly in the Dallas series, though (always has done well against, Dallas, too).

I think Bonzi's best days are behind him, its best if we just let him go, just out of curiousity has he played in the finals?

That was a great trade for Houston. Bonzi never could into any kind of rythm. I dont think I have ever seen anybody MISS so many WIDE OPEN layups AND putbacks !!! And Mike James was just awful. Im really sorry we dumped him on yall like that. Seriously.

Don't be sorry. Bonzi played a small part in helping us get to the playoffs (even though he sucked during the playoffs) and well, Mike barely played at all. I still think James was acquired more for his contract than his actual contributions. For all we know, he could be out of here come trade deadline. But, since Pargo is gone, he may earn a portion of that money. Maybe. Mike wasn't doing anything for Houston and he hasn't done anything for the Hornets yet either. Maybe you guys should've kept him. He may have helped you get out of the first round.

We didn't do this trade to get Bobby Jackson we did it to get BJax's contract which now, with some fillers, is Ron Artest. I don't understand why you would think the Hornets would do this for Mike James contract when you already had an expiring one. Even if you didn't trade him the savings would have probably allowed you to keep your first rounder away from Shinn. The Hornets were already playoff bound before Bonzi, he was there to make them contenders. It didn't work. Hes just not a good player anymore. Not like this affects the Hornets in any profound way. Still a great ball club with an exciting future. Just don't front like this trade worked in retrospect. Your GMs moves are not an indictment on you or your team. My question is:

Would this have worked?

 What's up with Rockets fans running in here talking smack about contracts? First of all, you neither I are Jeff Bower. I don't know if Wright+Bjax+1st rounder would have worked or not but I, as a fan, would not want Artest on my team and Scott is pretty high on Wright so no, I don't guess that would have worked. Nobody is fronting at all. No need to front about anything here. You don't see anyone in this forum claiming that was the greatest Hornets trade of all time. Sometimes moves are made to count for future moves. Who knows? I know you guys didn't trade to get Bobby Jackson. Teams trade for contracts and cap space all the time. Rockets do it, Hornets do it, all teams do it. I wonder how many Rocket fans were questioning the Bonzi trade the last time the Rockets met the Hornets when Bonzi dropped 25 off the bench. That win was what could've made the difference in the Hornets winning the SW Division so I guess Bonzi did help in some way. But that was last season and the Hornets exceeded most peoples expectations. Now we're looking forward.

I'm out. Rockets fans can argue this with someone else.

Not here to argue but rather discuss.

Two things:

1. The argument that the trade was made for MJs future contract is highly inconceivable. The trade was made for Bonzi and Mike James is what bonzi costs.

2. The average fan will always scapegoat Ron Artest away. Byron could be having an affair with JW and you would have to make that trade without a doubt. 20 ppg + a great defensive player for someone who averages 4 PPG and could have a valuable future is a no brainier.
