Gordon Sprains Ankle...Participates in Light Practice Drills

Post#1 » by mkwest » Wed Oct 1, 2008 7:11 am

Just got word that Clippers rookie guard Eric Gordon sprained his right ankle at practice tonight and will sit out of practice on Wednesday. He's considered day-to-day.

We'll know more tommorrow morning just how serious the injury is, but even if it's minor, it's disappointing to see Gordon miss any practice time. Everyone in the Clippers camp seems enamored with Gordon and his potential to contribute immediately. One veteran player even used the word ``star'' when describing how good Gordon can be. And it seems like Gordon has taken the expectations on him seriously. He said after Tuesday morning's practice that he'd lost about seven or eight pounds over the summer (he now weighs around 215 pounds), because he wanted to be prepared for extended runs and the long NBA season. That's a good sign for a player who had to shut it down after just two summer league games, due to injury.

F*ck, we can't catch a break! I really hope it's minor and that'll he play in the preseason opener.

I'm glad to hear that he's trimmed down. With White Chocolate gone, he very well may see some minutes at point here and there. He needs to chill on the injuries though. Hopefully it's something minor and he'll be able to be back on the court practicing with the team in a few days. I hope to see him play against the Lakers on the 9th, since it may be the only preseason game we get to see.

Well, at least it's not the same recurring injury. But a player like Gordon plays at full speed which almost certainly means injuries are unavoidable. As long as they're extremely minimal, it's all good.

I'm not concerned yet. If it has him out a few weeks, that's fine...just as long as he's ready once the real season begins. It's pleasing to hear that his teammates think he can be something special.

.
Wishing him a quick recovery now, and strong ankles in the future.
He sounds really promising.
Better to get any minor injuries out of the way now --- we need all Clippers to be strong and healthy throughout the season --- and we deserve it, after the last couple of seasons.

Seems like most of the lottery picks of the last draft got injured pretty quickly. EG really needs to go against the Lakers so we can see how the team works with all it's players in the preseason.

I suspect Pretty Ricky, to plug more SG mins,TT or Novak to go strong at SF ,Skinner PF, and either D.J. or P-Diddy to go at C until EG is fully healthy.

Eric Gordon will miss approximately 5-10 days with a sprained right ankle, according to Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy. Gordon, the Clippers first-round draft choice, was injured in Tuesday night's practice when he stepped on a teammate's foot.

``The good news is it's still really early. He'll be fine as long as he can stay up with what we're doing, if he's out here and able to follow along mentally,'' Dunleavy said. ``It's just a little bit of bad luck.''

Also, new center Marcus Camby missed Wednesday morning's practice with flu-like symptoms. Dunleavy said Camby started feeling badly Tuesday night, but would return as soon as he was feeling better.

LOL how in the hell you get the flu the same exact day as practice. Hope EG the best I really wanted to see him go in the Laker preseason game. I don't think they will risk it and just have him sit.

The flu has been going around LA as of late. I'm kind of sick right now, and so are a couple of my friends...

Let's hope that this is no foreshadowing of what's to come later this season...(knock on wood).

Dunleavy speaks on Gordon's injury...

"He's had a bit of bad luck," Dunleavy said today after the morning workout. "You can [have] a great ankle but if you step on someone's foot and turn it . . . "

That's what happened during the Clippers' night scrimmage on Tuesday. Gordon, the Clippers' first-round draft pick in June, sprained his right ankle after stepping on a player's foot when he was going for a defensive rebound. He was scheduled to be evaluated by a doctor later today.

Missing a week or so at this stage of camp isn't a huge setback.

"It's early enough, so there's plenty of time," Dunleavy said. "Basically, as long as he stays and watches everything we're doing. Conditioning wise, he's in good shape.

"He looked good yesterday playing. It's really not that big a deal. It's really just more you're not going to be out there for the timing of plays. You can't get lost in the shuffle out there. As long as he's here and picks it up mentally, he'll get the physical part pretty easily."

Gordon ankle sprain now classified as a high ankle sprain and he is expected to miss 1-2 weeks...

Just got word that rookie Eric Gordon's ankle injury is now being classified as a ``high-ankle sprain'' and he will miss ``at least 1-2 weeks'' according to Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy.

Gordon, the Clippers first-round draft choice (No. 7 overall), was injured Tuesday night when he stepped on the foot of a teammate. He was originally supposed to be out 5-10 days.

``I think I'll be back next week. It's not broke or anything,'' Gordon said. ``If this was during the season, I'd really want to be playing. But since it's now, I think I'll wait until it's 100 percent.

``I bounce back from injuries well. I was in pretty good shape coming into training camp, and most guys need training camp to get into shape.''

The biggest challenge?

``I have three levels of stairs to go up in my apartment,'' he said. ``And I was on crutches last night, so it was kind of hard.''

Update on Gordon's ankle and the health status of Thomas & Kaman

Rookie guard Eric Gordon seems to be making a quick comeback from his high-ankle sprain. Gordon, who sprained his ankle last Tuesday and was forecast to miss 1-2 weeks, was able to run and participate in a few drills at today's practice. He was not able to make lateral cuts or be involved in contact drills.

Tim Thomas (flu) practiced today after missing Monday's practice.

Chris Kaman said his sore ankles feel great, but he's been dealing with a plantar fasciitis flare up.

Don't like hearing about Kaman dealing with plantar fasciitis. That's the kind of injury that could linger throughout the season.
