Who is the biggest rival?

Post#1 » by DelaneyRudd » Sun Oct 5, 2008 9:49 am

Per the official page:

What team is our biggest rival?
LA Lakers 52%
Houston 19%
San Antonio 15%
Denver 11%
Portland 3%

Interesting, since the Lakers are kinda everyones rivals. Only Denver and Portland are in the NW. OKC and Minny are afterthoughts. Houston and San Antonio can make better claims in TX. Lakers will probably choose Sac, LAC or PHO over Utah.

I say it has to be Denver or Portland. Easily the 3 most livable places in the NBA Denver was nothing, became something and are nothing again. Portland had the SEA thing going for a long time but now may need a buddy to hate. UTA/POR/DEN should become like Packers/Vikings/Bears in a triangle of hate.

I think our biggest rival is Denver. They are in our Division and there is some bad blood there. I think the Lakers are the most HATED team....but I think Delany is right in the fact that they are everyones rivals.

After this year, and the improvments Portland has made, and the decline that we all expect from Denver, I could see a renewed rivalry with the Blazers.

I think our two biggest rivals are the Lakers and the Spurs at the moment.
They are the two teams that we need to beat.
If there is a playoff series against one of those two teams , the tension will be extremely high.

Number 3 is Houston. We are the most hated team by the Houston fans.

I understand the at the moment thing, but I am a Packer fan. There are two teams that you just hate more no matter what. It is also a college thing. Maybe we as Jazz fans miss out on that because the Nugget organization is s*** and we are far away from everyone else. (Even Denver is a s*** drive. Only Vegas is a sizable city you can really make a day trip out of and they have no team.

Rockets are honestly our rivals. We would be lying to ourselves if we were saying otherwise. They are probably the second or third strongest team in the Western Conference, and they know they won't get a championship unless they beat us. Remember we beat the very same team that won 22 games in a row. Nuggets suck, calling them our biggest rivals is really underrating the Utah Jazz. the same with the Trailblazers.

I like it being with the Rockets... it isn't the normal, run of the mill, I hate Lakers, so Lakers are our rivals type of thing. We genuinely have a great matchup and recent history with the Rockets.

It would be even better if Chris Paul didn't get rocked every time he played the Jazz. :dontknow:

Wrong on Sac and especially the Clippers we haven't even had a playoff series with them yet and probably never will with how topsy turvy they run their operation. At least with your team and the Suns we've had a playoff history that goes back a ways. But truthfully our biggest rivalry is with the Spurs as far as conference play and personal vendetta, followed the Suns then the Jazz. But our most heated and hated rival is the Celtics, the tension there is like no other and no one out side of LA and Boston understands this more then we do.

Right now it's Houston or Denver. The season games with Denver are heated with fans trash talking no doubt, but I would actually say Houston given our playoff history with them. They certainly hate us the most, that's for sure! 5 years from now it's most likely gonna be Portland.

San Antonio isn't a rivalry...cuz usually rivalries have to be slightly competitive, right?

Hello everyone.

I think it depends the way we look at it:

Denver: I hate (in a sportsmanship way) them mainly because Marshmellow Anthony. Since he said that he deserved to be in The All Star instead of Kirilenko. What a stupid idiot. It doesnt matter if he deserved or not, he should have never said that. I like Iverson though.

Spurs: Losing to them at their house for the last 5000 years is something to consider. I think if we can beat them there, its gonna be a big help to the Jazz' confidence to win it all.

Houston: I think maybe because they are a very good team and they think they are better them us, LOL

Lakers: I dont see them as a rival. I cant explain it. But its possible that we are gonna see each other in the post seasons to come.

Regards,

for me, there is nothing that i enjoy more than watching them rock Denver, Houston and New Orleans. Since we always beat the Nuggets and the Hornets, i would say our biggest rival is the Houston Rockets just because they are at our level. i have a feeling that we will be watching Jazz vs Rockets in the playoffs a few more times in the years to come.

We've been rivals alot longer than the past 2 years. You remember Stockton and Malone vs Olajuwon and Co. ???

Most Houston fans have ALWAYS hated the Jazz. That shouldnt surprise anybody.

But you must really hate the Jazz after they beat you two years in a row while you had home court advantage in the first round. That must blow.

I agree with the Nuggets perhaps sucking this year, but the Blazers? Utah will win the division, but Portland sucking is a little much considering they took 3 out of 4 from the Jazz last year. I think Utah and Portland will re-new the rivalry from the 90's.

Not really. The Jazz are no "chop liver." I'll them credit for the series victory 2 years ago (although that Houston team had incredibly weak depth). But last year shouldnt even have been that close. I mean we didnt even have Yao Ming. Rafer missed 2.5 games. McGrady and Battier were hurt. I dont think anybody honestly expected to win that series even with HCA.

Your also dawging the Rockets so much, but I think you should be giving our own team much more credit.

NO EXCUSES this year. Bring it on B*TCHES !!!

I'm praying for Utah this year in the first round !!!

It should say the Blazer's could suck, they could also be pretty damn good. Either they have enough talent and matchup well enough with us to have decent rivalry for the next decade or so.

For this players' generation it is Houston and Denver. Nobody else care about us.

Houston cause of consecutive first round series.
Denver cause of division and a bit of Anthony/Kirilenko All-Star 2004 choice.
I should be on Lacob payroll...

Return to Utah Jazz
