I very may well be posting a similarly dismal baseball post later today. If not today, sooner rather than later.

The Cubs folded. The Sox are on the verge of folding after backing into the playoffs following an otherwise impressive season. The Bears are showing themselves to be mediocre. The Bulls are a huge question mark. The Hawks -- show promise, but I haven't yet regained the interest in them that I had in the late 80's.

Blech.

The Bears I think look better than expected. They could easily be 4-0 right now, and they're still tied for a division lead. I don't think they have any chance at the superbowl, but the Vikings have played like crap, the Packers don't look great, and the Lions are the lions. I'd give the Bears a very good chance at a playoff birth (likely followed by a 1st round exit, seriously, Kyle Orton is still QB).

The Bulls are certainly not going to go anywhere exciting this year, but they are going to be building towards something with Derrick Rose most likely. If they win 35 games, but Derrick Rose looks awesome, it simply won't matter that they only won 35 games, we'll feel great about it anyway.

The Sox really never had any hope once Quentin went down. I mean they were a fringe playoff team before that, then they lost a guy who might have won the MVP had he stayed healthy the rest of the season. The Sox might not be in too bad of position going forward though. They need to replace a lot of their aging vets to get some speed on the team, but Floyd, Danks and Buehrle seems like a potential lights out pitching staff if Floyd and Danks continue to improve.

The Cubs, I don't know, I mean you can't think they're in too bad of a position going forward because they were the best team this year, but the collapse makes you throw up your hands a bit too. I'd still feel good about the Cubs making the post season next year though.

The Blackhawks are the only hope for Chicago sports.

It's weird for me to say that I hate looking forward to the Bulls and Blackhawks this year. This Cubs team was so dominate during the regular season. It just doesn't seem fair.

The Cubs are going to be the only team swept in the 1st round this year

Congrats Cubs!

to paraphrase Yogi Berra, "It's deja vu - 1969 style - all over again"

they've been the Flubs to me since '69, and with all the turmoil in the global financial markets these days, at least it's comforting to see this little bit of consistency.....
