Hornets 2008 Pre-season thread

Post#1 » by Copperhead » Sun Oct 5, 2008 1:55 am

10/5 vs. Golden State .... 6pm CST.

Scott says the reserves will get the most PT. He's claiming he'll play the starters about 20 minutes.

Tyson went down in the first quarter with what they said is an ankle sprain. Hopefully it isn't too serious. We should hear more about it later.

Tyson walked out of the locker room on his own after halftime so I guess that's a good sign. He won't be playing anymore tonight though which it would be crazy if he did (precautionary reasons).

Peja hasn't gotten in the groove yet. Dude is missing everything.

Posey, Wright and Hilton are playing pretty well.

Tyson says he's fine.

NEW ORLEANS -- Hornets center Tyson Chandler sprained his right ankle in the first quarter of New Orleans' preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.

Chandler sat out the rest of the game, but returned to the bench in his warmups to watch the second half and stood without apparent pain to chat with teammates during timeouts.

"I'm fine," Chandler, who did not score and had one rebound, said as he left the New Orleans Arena following the Hornets' 106-103 victory. "I just stayed out as a precaution."

Some observations I read on another Hornets forum from a guy who went to the game:

-Posey is bigger than he thought, easily able to play PF in our "small ball" second unit.
-Mike James and Devin Brown played in the backcourt together, with James the distributer (which he didnt do all that well, still rather shoot-first)
-JuJu played the point guard position for the final 5 or so minutes of the game.
-Ely has lost alot of weight. Around 20 pounds lighter.

I think with Armstrong going in instead of Ely when Chandler injured himself Byron was basically trying not to mess up his planned second unit, so Hilton is likely the 3rd string center at this point, even though he put up decent numbers.

I was rather surprised to see him with 5 assists.

The Pacers had a 6 point 3rd quarter. Jared Jordan looked nice. Ely went off on Hibbert for an elbow to his face. Hibbert was ejected, Melvin got a tech for going off. I guess Ely remembered the fractured eye socket from Kenyon Martin's elbow last season which caused him to go off.

The Hornets and their coaching/training staff met Obama while in Indy.

ROFL at that top photo w/ Obama and the "get one in ya" pose on the far left.

Yea we owned the Pacers, 15 steals! from accounts i've seen our bench unit was really good defensively, and JuJu + Posey looks like a wicked forward combo.

if life was one big game of NBA2k9, the Hornets would've unlocked the 15 steals achievement. and uh, good on ya Ely.

even though we're talking preseason, it is still nice to see NOLA waxing those in need of waxing.

is it October 29th yet?

Don't know. They said something about his ankle. Hopefully it's not too bad. He was playing well. We should hear more maybe at halftime.

Current score ..... Hornets 47, Wizads 9.

Rasual Butler looking nice too. Posey and Peja splashing 3's.
