I guy I know from another board went to the scrimmage last night and this is what he had to say about it.
For you folks in Charlotte, this was a great chance to see how the team works out, some of the drills they run, and get close to the team in a small gym. I was 5ish rows off the floor and could see the whole court with ease. (sorry no pics)
I will start with the positives.
DJ Augustine looked solid for a rookie, in fact IMO he didn't look like a rookie at all. He appears to easily be the fastest guy on the floor. He even BLOCKED G-Force once. (well he stripped him as G-force went up for the shot :: He also seemed to have ALOT of intensity and fire.
Wallace and Richardson appear to be in good health and shape. Richardson gave the crowd a nice windmill dunk with such a casual effort it was scary. G-Force was G-force, driving the lane, and knocking out some jumpers.
Felton look decent I thought. Didn't pay much attention to him and honestly he didn't wow me like Augustine did. But I will say this, the guy doesn't stop, he has ALOT of competitive spirit.
May played the whole 3 quarters I watched. He has a GREAT mid-range jumper, and fought for some rebounds. He appears ready again to contribute. I could see him as a 8/8 a night guy easily as long as he will put in the effort.
Now some complaints.
Alexis.....omg.... Nazir Muhommad made him his bitch on several plays. 2 of our reserves (light skinned guy with tats on his arm and short dreads dude) beat him for several rebounds. He made 2 long range jumpers, only to miss like8/10 from under the basket.
AM sucks, he showed no interest in even being out there. WAY too casual the whole time, zero intensity. He nailed a couple mid/long range jumpers. Richardson schooled him a couple of times as well.
Overall it looked like a practice. Brown coaches every guy on a 1 on 1 level. He will stop them, correct themistake andsend them back out.

Thanks for finding that and sharing it chabber. I wonder what sort of seriousness and intensity the scrimmage was played at?

Re: 2008/09 Training Camp Notes
I asked him a few questions Slam and that was one of them. I'll let you know what he says.
Here is what I asked and how he answered. Didn't really answer my questions fully but it's ok.
What kind of drills did they do before the scrimmage if you can remember?
Also you mentioned Jemario Davidson the tattooed guy with dreads. How did he look? If May continues to have injury issues it's likely he will be our PF, did he stand out at all?
I think Alexis will be ok eventually. He's got to learn how to play against the bigger guys like Mohammad etc...did he seem pretty active at least?
I'm glad to hear what you said about DJ. I'm hoping he pushes Felton really hard this year for the starting job.
As for the night itself. Was it more of a laid back feel or were the coaches and guys treating it more like a real practice? Your comments about AM are concerning.
Dreads dude played really hard, looked Solid, got mad at himself when he messed up.
Ammo seriously never looked concerned about anything, from stretching to play to bricking or hitting a 3, no emotion IMO.
I couldn't begin to describe the drills, lots of fast break stuff, making extra passes and such.
Alexis put up good effort, but his only points I can remember came from around the 3point line.
The felton / DJ battle was fun to watch.
Carrol and Dudley hit 3's I think
I left at the end of the 3rd period, I was pretty tired.

This piece really had me feeling good about Lex (Ajinca). We are about due to luck out in a draft. If DJ continues to live up to the hype that Walt and I placed on him while we drooled over him during his time at Texas and Lex really does pan out, it might start to make up for the misses we have had to endure so far.
