Re: Lane Kiffin Fired
What's with all the knocks on Kiffin? Why do people think he lied or "tanked"? Im a little confused about that. Seems to me that, if Kiffin did in fact lie, Al Davis is the type of guy who would have called him out on it as soon as it happened. Im also not sure why people would think he stuck it out just for the money. Maybe he stuck it out because it was his first NFL head coaching job and he really wanted to succeed. Why does it have to be just for the money? Maybe he actually wanted to do well in spite of all the problems he had with Al Davis.
Like Jellos said, he may not have necessarily been a saint, but that doesn't mean he was a liar or only in it for the money or anything like that. Maybe he really did admitt to the players that he felt his job was in trouble, but it was the truth. Davis was making statements about a coaching change after the first game of the season. He hired Kiffin and never even gave him a real chance.
We have no past history on Kiffin and we have a whole bunch of other past players and coaches saying all the same things about Al Davis that Kiffin said. Im not saying to just believe Kiffin, but at this point, that's the way im kind of leaning.

Re: Lane Kiffin Fired
Kiffin did lie... so did Al. They are both stubborn and prideful people.... Kiffin has the chip on his shoulder because of his heritage, and Al has it because of his incredible legacy. If either actually cared about the Raiders fans, this doesn't go down. Kiffin leaves in the offseason or Al fires him. Simple. Instead we have a 4 month standoff because neither one wants to swallow their pride.
You guys can discuss "Media Lane Kiffin" all you want. A lot of people know him as a really great guy - until you challenge anything. If you challenge him, you are on his S-list, and apparently, it doesn't matter who it is - even his boss.
Leaving Al's obvious personality issues out of it, Kiffin has lied, may have a case because of the lack of proof from the Raiders, and ONLY stuck with the team because of a combination of pride/money. I mean, just looking at the situation w/o any inside knowledge you can get that...
Regardless of how childish Al acted, he nailed one thing: Kiffin's too immature to be an NFL coach. As for the him wanting do well in spite of Al stuff - its garbage. He did want to leave, repeatedly, before the season even started. But Al has this thing about giving away free money and refused to buy him out or just let him go. And thus, this whole thing started.

I don't really care how "immature" Kiffin is, the guy proved he knows how to coach. He had what is a very bad team playing well above their heads. I don't see how Kiffin is in the wrong here, he signed a contract and he deserves to be paid for it. Al Davis has turned himself and his team into a joke.
As for Kiffin, he will get another job. Perhaps he has to OC first, but he will have another head coaching job.

Re: Lane Kiffin Fired
Kiffin is supposed to be a front runner for a top college HC job coming up. From what's been told, there might not be a NFL job out there for him, even going into next season, and he might prefer to stay in a place where he would almost certainly have personnel control. We'll see...
How is this a very bad team now? The Raider stereotype continues... I have to be honest, its not surprising it comes from the East Coast 99% of the time.. This is not the same awful team it was even a calendar year ago.
It has weaknesses, but this is a team that could easily be 3-1, has played great on D when Ryan remembers to blitz... a lot of people internally believe the Raiders SHOULD be better - that our O-line has played above and beyond what we expected and that was one big reason why Al gave the interim coach job to Cable.
In week 6, people should expect to see JaMarcus do what he does well - throw a smooth long ball. At least thats the sentiment my guy has.. Despite what a lot of people believe, Raider HQ is a lot more peaceable with Kiffin not around.

It's pretty plain and simple the Raiders are not a good team. I'm sorry but when you go into a season knowing you are not going to the playoffs you are just not a good team. Yes they do certain things well, but they have been playing above their heads this season.
And I think the team is going to play worse with Kiffin gone.

Re: Lane Kiffin Fired
What sunshine said is why this just reeks of stupidity. The Raiders are a better team and Lane Kiffin showed a lot of promise as a coach. But because he didn't swear absolute loyalty, he gets booted off the ship. Even though they are playing better and have decent talent that is improving weekly, they have no shot at the playoffs because of BS like this.
Kiffin made some mistakes and he'll be better for it at his next job. I think some of his issues were that he thought he could do things his way, not Al's way. He should have known better.
I agree that he's probably going to wind up running a college program for the next few years. Maybe Syracuse or Washington. He'll get another NFL shot at some point.

Re: Lane Kiffin Fired
About which? Kiffin lying or him turning on people who didn't immediately bow down to him as HC?
FWIW - No one in Raiders HQ, from what I hear, knows why Kiffin hasn't filed to get his money yet. It's going to happen, but there is confusion to why there is a delay. The Raiders had their case ready to go the instant Kiffin was let go..

I'm assuming that Kiffin is meeting with a lawyer and they are making sure they have everything in line. Really no reason for Kiffin to rush, he's going to get paid.

Re: Lane Kiffin Fired

The money he tried to save by firing Kiffin, he's going to give right back to the NFL for falsely accusing the Pats of tampering... this guy fails at everything he tries...
and sunshine, I think the shock is that Kiffin wasn't already prepared to go to battle as soon as it happened. Most expected Kiffin to have his lawyer on speed-dial and ready to go the instant he was fired... the only guess I could even make is that Kiffin might take it a step farther than just recouping money (defamation?)...

Well that sure is money well spent by Mr. Davis. If you accuse a team of tampering you sure an hell better be able to prove it.
And Reggae you do make a good point about Kiffin. He obviously knew the day was coming when he was going to get fired. Perhaps you are also right about a defamation lawsuit.

People do realize Al Davis is a Syracuse alum, right?
Somehow I'm doubting Kiffin gets that job.

I did not know that. Probably would dampen that prospect, though it all depends on how much Davis contributes.

I bet that 2mil he stiffed Kiffin for has Syracuse's name all over it.
He's probably the only owner in pro-sports that would lose money to make a point.
