Marvin Williams may be going to Olympiacos in '09

I don't expect anyone to be able to read that, but that's my proof of evidence.
Expect an English-written article soon.

Most of that talks about Marvin Williams' stats in the beginning and his tight relationship with Josh.
Basically says that Marvin and Josh have been doing a lot of talking and Josh is pressuring Marvin about making the move to Athens and Olympiacos this upcoming summer once his 4-year deal is done summer of '09.
Didn't know that Marvin and Josh have the same manager (agent).

This week, The New York Times and ESPN will be in Athens to once again interview Childress and other Olympiacos people.

Only way Marvin heads over if he completely tanks the season and gets no deal from any teams. Otherwise he will be remaining here. I know everyone want to think anyone can be had. At the end only the role players who over value themselves will likely head overseas. Marvin isn't a role player and the Hawks will make sure to keep him if he proves his worth this year.

While I agree that it probably doesn't seem plausible for Marvin to be looking overseas one day after the news comes that Sund is not looking to extend him a qualifying offer, you can't dispute that Marvin indeed is more of a role player right now. In fact, he can be considered the 5th best starter on this team.

He has some proving to do this year from an overall standpoint to be able to say he commands the kind of numbers that the Olympic PGs have garnered. While it may be nice to say that we should be glad Marvin is here instead of Bogut, count on knowing that Bogut would have been the selection if we had the choice at the time.

Marvin should look at all offers because the Hawks are going to more than likely let the market determine his value.

If Marvin doesn't show some major signs of improvement this season then I don't see why we'd want him here anyway.

#1 Don't European leagues cap the number of US citizens that can be on the roster? Is Marvin who they want to use the limited allotment on?
#2 It's early in the season, let's see how much recruiting occurs later in the year. If Josh Childress isn't getting as much love later in the year the sales pitch might not be effective.
#3 Marvin's QO is 7.355M. That means it's even higher to outbid than what Childress was getting offered.

The other way to look at the article is Josh Childress sounds lonely and is actively trying to recruit one of his friends over to join him playing in Greece. This may or may not be the case, but it's another possible interpretation.

Translated
News “removed” the return Olympic in the clans territories then from friendly in Israel! At the same time, the presence of [Tsilntres] in the Olympic and Greek championship continues causing the interest of colossuses of world Press in our parts. “New York Times” they are already in Athens and they prepare big hommage in the American, while Wednesday is also expected ESPN in order to it speaks so much with [Tzos], what with the persons of Olympic.

SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY JUST TALK ABOUT MARVIN AND HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH A PLAYER IN GREECE NOT THAT HE IS GOING TO BE SIGNED. SURE AN OFFER MIGHT BE GIVEN BUT THIS IS MERELY SPECULATION AND TROLLING WITH A FISHING HEADLINE FROM THE OP

Marvin doesn't have to prove he's the equal of the "Olympic PG's."

He simply has to prove he's worthy of the cost it will take to keep him as the team's SF.

Unless Marvin really breaks out this season and gets a Josh Smith size contract then I think its a virtual lock he takes the QO this coming offseason. Not only is his QO for significantly higher than the MLE, but that lets him hit UFA in the 2010 season when so many teams are trying to clear major caproom in order to take a run at Lebron, Wade, and Bosh.

Chil would have been lucky to get 6M from an NBA team. Marvin should not have a problem in getting 9M from an NBA team.

Olympiacos should save their money and try to make a 50M-60M offer to Joe

If we give Marvin 9M a year then Sund might be worse than Babcock or Billy Knight. I would pay Childress more than Marvin in a heartbeat. Sure he was drafted a couple spots higher but Childress showed me a lot more in his time here than Marv has. Just because he was the number 2 draft pick a few years ago doesn't entitle him to a base salary anywhere near his qualifying offer.

I mean a 5 year 45 million dollar contract is in the realm for what Marvin could get with a big year. Hell- Kwame brown got a 3 year 25 million dollar deal as I recall. But still, why would he take that contract when he could take the QO for about the same first year salary and then hit UFA when more teams have caproom? Even if he spins his wheels for another season someone would still pay him on potential (if they were willing to pay him on potential this offseason)

It's going to take more than $45M to sign a healthy Marvin. You can bet on that.

Maybe his reaction their handling of him as an RFA isn't completely warranted. But is there any question that the Hawks are a poorly run team who are not loyal to their players? That's why he left. It wasn't just the RFA situation, it was a pattern of behavior from the organization that made him not want to be here.
