Nash a Raptor?

An interesting note from my morning perusing.
Steve Nash says he wants to play for the Raptors. Okay, he didn't say that. But he did say he'd like to play four more seasons, which increases the likelihood that he could play somewhere else besides Phoenix, I guess. His current deal expires after the 2009-2010 season, at which point the Raptors have a nice whack of cap space – although some it is devoted to Jose Calderon, granted.
Repatriating Nash would be a nice feather for Bryan Colangelo and would generate some serious buzz around the Air Canada Centre. What Nash would have left is another question, but his personal standards are high enough that I can't see him merely hanging in for the money only, though I'm sure he is kind of feeling underpaid, at least in NBA terms. He's a two-time MVP and just the third-highest paid player on his team. You don't think he'd mind banking another $15-million (U.S.) or so?
The question is whether Nash would want to come to Toronto. By that time in his career I'd think a huge factor would be competitiveness: there is no way a guy who'd been winning 50-plus games and had an eye on winning an NBA title for a decade or so is going to want to finish in a limp.
Another factor to keep in mind is what the Mike D'Antoni-coached Knicks are doing by then. Let's just say the Knicks manage to win the LeBron James sweepstakes that same summer. You don't think an aspiring entertainment mogul would want to hang in NYC? With LeBron?
Especially since Captain Canada makes his off-season home in Manhattan.
So there you go.
--- Personally, I'd bet the Knicks, if he were to go anywhere, but I'd prefer he retire a Sun ... adn I'm Canadian.
Maybe by then we'll have a team back in Vancouver ....

Yeah even though Nash said he'd like to stay with the Suns in last weeks interview we all know he's saying that to stay on the organizations good side for the last two years. I would have been surprised if he came out and said he wants to go elsewhere in two years but I think he's as good as gone for two reasons, his own sake and the Suns sake.
For the Suns, if they don't win the championship, are eliminated from the playoffs or don't make the playoffs Nash is as good as gone at 2010. I mean the Suns could sign him for the minimum in 2010 but I doubt he would take that also the Suns would most likely want to rebuild instead of giving Nash a midlevel exception plus deal. Now if the Suns win the championship that's the only way I see the Suns willing to shell out some cash and keep him otherwise he's most likely going to walk.
As for Nash, he and D'antoni had a good relationship so I wouldn't be surprised to see him take the midlevel or something with the Knicks also the Raptors, Colangelo brought him here and drafted him plus he's Canadian so either of those two teams could land Nash. I think it's going to depend on the relationship he has with Porter on if he decides to stay with the Suns or not, Porter is a blue collar coach, the opposite of D'antoni. Porter holds players accountable and has long practices, when Nash gets older that might be much for him so who knows.
Right now the only players I'm expecting on the Suns after 2010 are Diaw, Barbosa and Dragic because even Amare can opt out or take a deal elsewhere.

How about we just win a ring in the next 2 years? Then he'll pretty much have to finish his career here, you would think.
Doubt he goes to Toronto unless Calderon bottoms out in the next couple of years. He's not going anywhere to be a backup.
Could certainly see him finish his career in New York. Could you imagine seeing LeBron teamed up with Nash under D'Antoni? That's a basketball fan's dream.
Maybe he'll team up with Dirk somewhere but the only place I could see that happening is Phoenix.
I find it ironic how a lot of writers are writing about how the Suns may fall off a cliff this year because Nash and the rest of the guys are getting older. And yet you read about where they think he'll wind up in 3 years and salivate over it. The guy can play and will be playing at a high level for a long time.

Why the hell would he go play for a pathetic franchise that was (Please Use More Appropriate Word) enuf to not give him a contract extension and let him walk in 2004?
So looks like it'll come down to Suns vs Raps. If he walks we'll have to sign a new starting PG, I'm not sold on Dragic or Singletary being good enuf to run our offense fulltime.
