I would rather have it at Solider Field as well but the NHL wants this to feel more "historic" for ratings.

Crane Kenney was on ESPN 1000 and he said due to the fact that seats close to the field level may have a hard time viewing the game, there will be a portable Jumbotron behind the left field bleachers for the game.

The NHL has negotiated with the Cubs to have a portable video board installed behind the left field bleachers for the Winter Classic game Jan. 1 between the Blackhawks and Red Wings at Wrigley Field, sources told the Tribune.

The installation of a Jumbotron doesn't necessarily mean the Cubs will have one brought in for baseball games, though obviously the new owners will have the final say on that decision.

But if the one-game experiment for hockey doesn't upset baseball purists, Cubs fans could see a video board one day down the road.

Hawks President John McDonough and marketing chief Jay Blunk, both of whom left the Cubs for their current positions, were in attendance at the Cubs-Pirates game Friday, along with Hawks general manager Dale Tallon, assistant GM Stan Bowman and newly installed adviser Scotty Bowman.

McDonough had no comment on the NHL's plan.

I don't believe tickets have gone on sale yet. They are still in the process of determining where certain things will be located for the event.
