1-0 after one. First hockey game on HD for me, just beautiful.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Lol, they won. I expect nothing from this team, any win will be because of the goalie, like the good 'ol Leafs of years past.

Excellent game all around. Every team in the NHL has a tough time defending Holmstrom when he sets up shop in front of the goalie. The goals given up were not as a result of turnovers, which I'm very pleased by.
Thought they were gonna blow another win in the final moments, but luckily Dom Moore was looking like Kris Draper out there tonight.
Go get those Habs!

I'm impressed.
It was a typical day at the office for Toskala, he played extremely well. I was also impressed with Grabovski, Tllusty, Kulemin and Schenn tonight.
Our defensive system has vastly improved. See what a proper coach can do for a team?

The cupboard didn't look quite as bare as many thought.
Kulemin looks like he has great hands and will be a solid goal-scorer in time.
Schenn looked like a first-pairing NHL defenceman in his first game. He's only going to get better.
I've loved watching Grabovski since the first time I saw him this pre-season. He's fast, has great hands and creativity.
Tlusty also looks like a completely different player.
Maurice just isn't a good coach. He was so overrated for that one run in Carolina where they beat the Leafs. More times than not he was out of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Wilson has always been an excellent coach who actually does more with less than he does with more (underachieved with a stacked San Jose team, shocked the world with middling-poor Washington Anaheim teams, etc.)
The forechecking was great and the whole team looked three times as fast as they have for the past 5+ seasons.
If you are quick and can forecheck, you can compete in today's NHL.
This team is going to be better than people think. I never thought they'd be bad enough to compete for Tavares/Hedman (overrated anyways, neither is a Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos or Phaneuf. They'll be all-star good, but not franchise guys, imo).
Most likely, the Leafs will be fighting for 8th all year and will end up 9th or 10th.

Toronto just got lucky. I don't know why the Wings were not using our big guns on one line. We have tons of depth and should have mauled the Leafs.
Calm down Leaf fans it's one game you will not win too many more. Looked like the Leafs won the cup and Younge and Dundas square.

Toronto did get lucky (all those posts) and Lidstrom is certainly not 100% (he's always the best player on the ice, yesterday he was a non-factor), but Leaf fans are getting excited because it looks like there is finally some genuine young talent to build on. The team is fast and forechecks for the first time since what, 1993?
Even the best teams will make mistakes if you are fast and come at them non-stop like the Leafs did (and don't take a lot of penalties).
It's a lot better than what we are used to.

Nobody get's 'lucky' by winning games. The Wings simply played poorly last night, and the Leafs capitalized on their mistakes. I hardly see that as 'lucky'. Are you implying that the Leafs are 'lucky' because the Wings played bad? Even that doesn't make much sense. We're talking about professional sports, teams win and lose for a reason.

Well Ozzy made a mistake that costed us a goal and I feel the game. He was rattled after that soft goal I think. Also we didn't have Nik at 100% if we did there would be no way we would loose.

woulda coulda shoulda.....those are excuses and any team faces its difficulties...fact of the matter is, a power house team like detroit lost to a rebuilding TML team...thats it...
